Photo request: 2024 X7 M60 lower front grill
We had our 24 X7 into the dealer to fix an "emergency call system malfunction" error. We also mentioned that we thought we were missing a cover in the lower passenger side grill. The driver side has a solid plastic cover about 6 or so inches inside the intake. The cover on the passenger side is missing and you can see through to what looks like radiator grills.
On the finished work order, the technician said nothing was wrong or missing. Can those of you with 2024 X7 M60s check and see if you have a cover inside both of the (fake?) intakes on your lower front grill? I'm pretty sure something is missing and that the service associate didn't write the ticket correctly for the technician to understand what he was looking at. I can't find a photo that has an example. We were also in a rush and didn't have time to walk the lot to inspect another X7 M60. It's possible that the passenger side does not have a cover so it's open to air and can cool whatever grill is visible. I don't know. Thank you! |

There is an air to water intercooler in that opening. And for symmetry they placed an opening on other side, but closed it off to increases aerodynamics. If the closed side was open, it would build up unnecessary air pressure inside the engine compartment increasing drag. At least that's my opinion on it. I'm no aerodynamisist.

I have a pre-lci and both sides are open with a heat exchanger on each side. Always wondered why some m50is have two, like mine, while most have one opening and all of the m60is have one opening. Anyone know the answer? I have searched

so it looks like these are the criteria for the various radiator configs on the pre LCI:
Trailer hitch Trailer hitch prep High Speed Synchronization (basically the top speed limiter of 155, this would be an M50i with 22" rims, the 21" all season option would have a 130 limiter)

I’m fairly confident there is no difference in the LCI whether or not you have the trailer hitch anymore. My non-trailer hitch M60i has passenger open but driver blocked. Other M60i’s I’ve seen with trailer hitch have the same blocking piece on the driver’s side. Wheel size has also never made a difference on the radiator openings.

I also have stock 21" 285/45 R21 square setup non run flat tires which should have no bearing on the additional radiator. My understanding is that they put the additional towing radiator on all the X7s for the MY2019/2020 model years but stopped doing that for MY2021. Probably because BMW realized they were throwing money away by not making this an additional paid add on option. There's another thread in here somewhere where this was discussed for the pre LCI X7. Idk if you ever got this looked at but that error is usually caused by a leaking shark fin. 2019s to early 2022’s have a faulty sealing method for the shark fin so they fail prematurely. Found this out the hard way.

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=51_A441 you can see the vents are dependent on the options selected. on the LCI there's no such differentiation. theres a cover for the left side vent. https://www.bmw-etk.info/parts-catal...85/51/51_B413/
