Where will the 1 series be on display first?

Where will the 1 series be on display first?

I am just wondering who has the first car show of the year. Chicago doesn't have a car show until Feb '08

If it's released in NA in spring, I'm guessing we'll get a "preview" at the big city car shows in '08.

I don't know, are there any big German/UK/Euro car shows this fall? Never paid attention to dates..

For us USAers, I would guess Detroit in January 2008, although the e90 debuted at the New York International Auto Show for North America in early April 2005, for a NA release 45 days later.

Dam I was hoping to see it at the SF auto show in late November!! The car will be out already in Europe, so I am hoping to see it then.

Rumors suggest that the 1er Coupe will be shown at the L.A. Auto Show this coming November. The L.A. show has been moved this year.

Its official unveiling will be at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September.

The 1-Series will make its NA debut at the LA Auto Show in November.

The LA, New York, Chicago, and most importantly, Detroit auto shows are the 'manufacturer' auto shows - those shows are press events before the general public is allowed in the following days. The rest of the auto shows in the country can be classified (roughly) as 'dealer association' shows, without a significant press event prior to public opening. (The Chicago show, in February is put on by the Chicago Area Car dealers - but the manufacturers love that show as a 'first look' at new production vehicles as opposed to prototypes. Toyota has revieled new vehicles there each year since about 2002 (at least)).

But as soon as it DOES make its appearance at ANY one show, doesnt that mean it will show up and every show after that?

No - not necessarily. It depends on if the dealer is responsible for the display or the manufacturer. For instance, in Kansas City - Ford Motor Company gears up for their display (and the KCADA has to negotiate with the manufacturers to see if they can get 'prototypes' for display (and in KC they're usually a year or more older ; -)). But the BMW display in KC is up to the local dealer - using their stock and some materials (image displays and booklets, for instance) from the manufacturer. We may see the car in KC since it may be in dealer stock in early March of '08 when the KC show occurs. But if the dealer doesn't have the car, we won't see it in KC. I expect the same holds true for a lot of other shows. BMW will have the car at the big shows that occur in the US - probably LA, for sure Detroit and Chicago - after that it may be up to the whether or not the dealers have a car they can put on the show floor.

Correct. This is world "premiere" of the 1-series coupe. (meaning the first time it will be shown officially to the public)

And correct!

I distinctly recall them mentioning these specific shows during the presentation at the BMW event I attended back in mid-June.

We won't see it Downunder (Australia) until March next year at the Melbourne International Motor Show.

According to the article linked below, "BMW Australia is ignoring the 120d and new twin-turbocharged 123d diesel, and importing only the range-topping 135i for about March 2008."

Damn! That means only those of us who can afford the AU$75,000+ pricetag will be able to get into the new coupe. Australia always gets a raw deal when it comes to cars!
