Offsets...

Is it safe to presume the offsets of the upcoming 1-series coupe will mirror that of the existing 3 and 5-door variants?

If so, then the wheel offsets will range between ET47 and ET 49 depending on width.

If it is, that's a very inward leaning offset!!! Even the e90's are at 37 or 38.

I wonder what the idea is behind different types of offsets?

Well, every series of BMW has different offsets for their wheels. It's most likely due to the different suspensions and bodies for each respective model.

For instance, the non-M E46's have offsets of 41 and 50, front and rear respectively for 17" wheels and 47 and 50 for 18" wheels. The E46 M3 has fronts at ET47 and rears at ET26 for 18" wheels and the 19" offerings are ET47 and ET27.

So it looks like aftermarket wheels for the E90 would also work well with the 1 Series.

Without knowing the offset on the 135, it can't be confirmed.

Should be OK for the 128, but those big brakes on the 135 may not fit inside a 17" wheel--then again they might.

I found it interesting to see the German spec M-Sportpaket lists tires are 215/40/18 F and 245/35/18 R. Those tires are close to the 225F/255R for the 335i Sport. I know that car (and my e90 330i) have a good bit of room both in the front and rear. I'm hoping I can go 255 on all 4 corners with the 135. Offsets will definitely play a part in what we can stuff in the wheelwells in these cars.

I also find it interesting that both Hoosier (A6) and Kumho (V710) make tires in 245/35/18, plus there's a great selection of non-runflats to choose from.

Not entirely related but all BMW wheels are 5x120 bolt pattern right? Still adjusting from VW/Audi knowledge base...

Yes, all moderm BMWs have 5x120 bolt pattern. The 1er 5 door variant also does. Hopefully it has the same hubcentric bore too, though it should.

Yes, 255x35-18 on 18x9 wheels at all four corners would go a long way towards eliminating understeer.

Quite true, the amount of stagger in the tire sizes seems excessive, it's even more than my E46.

I'd be happy staying with the 245/35 size if I could squeeze those in up front too. Being able to swap 'em around would help even out the tire wear of R-compounds too.

id bet money you can fit 245's up front, with possible rub at only maximum turning radius. I'm still hoping 255's all around myself.

I would think that offsets will be the same for the coupe, this is true BMW fashion, and since it is a non-M, I think they will definitely be the same.

With such a high original offset there is no way to get a nice, aggressive look on the rear. That means that these wheels will not fit......

That's one sharp looking wheel! Seeing it near lifesize just makes it that much more apparent how good it looks.

Any solid word on what the real offsets will be for the 135i in the US? If the front brakes are of good size, a really high offset number doesn't seem right

I believe e46 M3s are 41 front and 30 rear (we run 25mm on all four corners of the race car)

Wow, that seems like it would make a lot of the aftermarket wheels for BMWs that have been out there for a while not usable on the 1 series.
