Alternating b/w 5W40 and 0W40

Hello Folks - Need some expert advice. Ive always used LiquiMoly 0w40 in my 2016 328, and was wondering if I can/should be using 5W40 during summer and switch to 0W40 during winter (About to place an order for the oil and thought I'd check here). Would alternating between oils adversely affect the engine?

Alternating oils for the weather is fine, but I wouldn't use 0w-40 in winter. For that matter I wouldn't use 5w-40 in summer, 5w-30 is sufficient. I also don't bother with a 0w even in New Hampshire, though I might if I lived atop Mt. Washington.

Thenk You Billfitz . When you say you wouldn't use 0w-40 in winter - Would it damage the engine if I am using it? What would you suggest I use going forward? 5w-30 for both summer and winter?

It won't damage the engine, but it won't do it any good either, and is probably costing you money at the gas pump. I use 5w-30 all year round as New England weather doesn't justify seasonal changes. I used to do seasonal changes, and use 40 weight, but not since first using Mobil 1 in 1974.

Castrol 0w-30 A3/B4 is LL-01 & LL-01FE rated, and will work anywhere in North America.

There's also a lower SAPS version: 0w-30 LL that is LL-04 rated.
