So the question is, after seeing this, what is everyones thoughts on pricing? I'm used to calculation Japanese prices, and this Euro conversion doesn't seem right (60K for a 335)...

Anyone with BMW experience make sense of what we should be seeing price wise??

i work for a BMW dealer in the UK, and the rumour is that the 135i M-sport coupe will be approx £31000- £33000, or 44250-47000euros.

We cant wait for the launch.

If this is the case you are looking at almost $40K for a M-Sport 135i...

Your math is correct, but, as I've said many times, the currency conversions aren't accurate and transferrable to the N/A market in order to come up with msrp's on BMW models.

BMW's sell for approximately 10% less in N/A than in Europe...and even among European countries there's variations which the adoption of the Euro has to some extent alleviated.
The volume sales in the U.S. and Canada, in part, account for the discount.

But ask anyone who has bought any BMW model outside the U.S. and they'll tell you we get a deal.
Wait for official pricing from BMW N/A and even then it'll still be a crap shoot depending on how BMW intends to market the car-
what terms on offer, determination of residual values, buy/lease strategies....the variables are too fluid to come up with an answer.
The prices quoted in the press 26k base/mid-30's 135 are probably markers that will hold up.

For me, the most amazing part is watching the hat-trick BMW has managed to perform in the Bangle years-
they've become a volume manufacturer while still synonymous with sporty and premium. A real market coup.

Canadian pricing

A note on Canadian pricing:

I just did a quick comparison of 335i coupe prices, and conservatively going with a current Canadian dollar at .90 US, we also pay about 10% more in real terms here in Canada for the "privilege" of buying a Bimmer than those in US--they sell here for a 20% higher MSRP before conversion. BMW needs to wake up and make adjustments for the fact that the Canuck dollar has been strong for the last 2-3 years now...

Man, the Canadians get screwed right now while the U.S. makes out like bandits.

It's probably worth mentioning that Susanne Klatten and some others on the BMW board majored in economics at the same school in Switzerland..I think she has the ecquivalent of a masters degree. The amount of strategy that goes into pricing and financial policy is incredibly interesting.
I wish the site had someone contributing who's knowledgeable in international finance to take some time and explain the type of issues that have popped up on this thread.

I am a 4th year Eco major with a minor in business. What would you like further explanation on, I should be able to help?

Off the top of my head, I would think the situation described by Devon is more a product of interest rates (and inflation), rather than exchange rates, but it could be a mix of both. I do not know what the "real" rates are in Canada right now, so I will do a little research and see what I can find.

Also, could you talk a little about how BMW determins prices for countries?
For example why BMW's are relatively cheap in the US while much more expensive in other countries. I really would find that interesting because I've heard that the reasoning takes on more factors than just money going into the ecquation...
