IS250 first to US market?
Did Lexus beat BMW to market on this class of car? Not a big fan of the toyota, but, I just saw one and it looks like it is going to be a good contender... having not seen a 135i in real life, does the IS250 represent similar proportions?

I think the Lexus buyer and the BMW buyer are quite a bit diffrent from each other, mainly because of significantly different approachs to driving, and what they expect out of a car. Lexus is sold based on promoting itself as papmered luxury with unparalleled reliablility (and some people actually believe that) with little or no reguard to driving dynamics. The Lexus buyer isn't pouring over technical specifications, worrying about weight, or why an inline 6 offers significantly greater mechanical refinment than other engine platforms. Lexus people are touchy feely. BMW people are technical, uptight, and obsessive compulsive.

With 0 - 60 times close to 8.0 seconds, I doubt the Lexus IS250 is going to beat either the 128i or the 135i to the market, in the market or on the road..

The IS (is it the 350 now?) competes with the 3-series, as stated above. Apparently, it's pretty close, but all the comparos still rate the 3 above it despite the fact that they always pick the less powerful bimmers due to pricing similarities....
And the IS250 competes with nothing. Riding mowers, maybe....

IS250 is in about the same league as the 323i sold in Canada in terms of price and power. Not interesting at all, from my perspective. Like my Acura TSX was a Accord in better clothes, such is the IS250 to a Camry...

The only advantage the IS 250 has is that it can be optioned with a manual gearbox. The IS 350 cannot.

Looks isn't everything. Read up on the car and you will find out that the IS250 isn't about performance. The IS250 is very, very slow and would get it's ass handed to it by a 1992 E36 BMW 325i. The newer 3-series would just destroy it more. |

I just replaced my Wife's 2004 X3 with a 2007 IS250 awd.
I am very impressed with the car. Fit and finish is top notch. BMW better watch out for Lexus. The new IS-F 500 has the possibility to be an M3 killer. The IS is much more comfortable than the 3 series. (I have had two, 2001 330ci and recently a 2007 335i demo) Did I mention heated and cooled seats as an option?! The 2007 335i I had had touchy brakes and the DBW needs to be tweaked. I am a huge BMW fan, but BMW shouldn't get to comfortable. ...did I mention the Mercedes my wife had was junk!! |

When I sat in the IS350 I wasn't impressed. The interior didn't seem to have any more quality than a Camry interior, and the area in front of the passenger seat (above the glove box) is the largest area of un-obstructed plastic that I've seen this side of a Nissan 350z. The IS's interior isn't as top notch as everyone says IMO. Lexus are the best at making cheap look expensive. I'm not impressed at all. The fit and finish still isn’t as good as the German cars, not even close IMO. People have been saying that now for 18 years. possibility and reality are two different things. Lexus have yet to build a “BMW Killer”, what makes you think that they will start doing so now? They couldn’t do it with the IS300 or the IS350. I’m of the opinion that Lexus cars and BMW cars are made for two completely different types of individuals. It may be more comfortable than the 3-series, but the Lexus doesn’t provide the driving experience of the 3-series, and doesn’t handle nowhere near as nice 3. It all boils down to personal preference. If you value comfort over handling, then the Lexus as well as tons of other cars out there can fit the bill. If you value superior Handling in a comfortable package, there are only a few makes of cars that can provide that. Lexus isn’t doing anything special. If Lexus is a good as the “Americans” make them out to be then the Europeans would be all over it. They are not big fans of Lexus over there. They see the Lexus for what it is, A glorified Toyota. . |
