That is a good comparison of the two--nice work.
I guess it takes comparison to realize how "long" the E92 is--I was just out looking at mine, and it doesn't appear to be very big, but next to the 1er, it would look noticeably bigger...

Do the headlights on the 1 look huge to anyone else? They seem overly done when compared to the ones on the 3 coupe. Should have just used the lights and front fascia from the 335i.

You're absolutely right, they are an abomination. As I mentioned in another thread, those goo-goo eyes ruin the front facia. The light covers should have been more tightly wrapped around the headlamps as was done with the 3 - someone deserves to lose their job over this.

more aggressive headlights
If only the 1 had smaller elongated headlights like the 335i, would surely give it a more aggresive look. Perhaps there would be a kit to cover up some of the headlights?
On the good note love how the interior is a bit curved on the passanger giving it some warmth as if it were hugging you, whereas the 335 dashboard is flat. Afterall it's just my opinion as aesthetics is purely subjective. :iono: |

I just added an interior comparison. I think that the 135i will look a billion times better with some contrasting color leather. Correct me if Im wrong, but shouldnt the 135i have an M-Badged steering wheel, shift knob and foot rest?

The only time I've seen an M-symbol on a shifter (manual or SMG) or a dead pedal is on an actual M-car. |

I agree about the interior (dash), reminds me of my E46 which I prefer to the slab they have put in the new 3. I also prefer the front of the 1; the new 3 just seems kind of swollen and flabby to me. I actually don't mind the lights so much, I think they give the car a quirkiness which gives it character. The wheels rock like mad.:headbang: I'm not sold on the back though. In profile the spoiler reminds me of a pimple that needs to be popped, and the shark's fin can go too. Also, I don't like the rear light cluster. In the press release they talk about it making the mass appear lower, sportier, or something. I think it does the opposite. They say the same thing about the lights on the 3, and they have the opposite configuration. Some one at BMW is pretty lame. I do however like the diffuser or whatever it is. Over all, I think they've done a nice job, I just wish they would bring a 4 or 5 door here. Maybe I'll just have to wait for the X1... ZZZZZZzzzzzz.... X3 is out of my price range. |

If you've ever owned an E30, you can see the 135i is more of a 3 series than the E92 is. I don't now if I'm the only one that feels this way, but the elongated swoopiness of the E92 reminds me of a Camaro (particularly the base model Berlinetta), which is a definite thumbs down. Sure, the C pillar and front clip are a bit different, but the overall proportions/silhouette (with the long hood), and stance are too close for comfort in my book. A proper 3 series should be more upright and boxy.
And then this abomination has nothing to do with a 3 series at all. history is going to forget the E90-E93, watch and see. |

I'm not sure what a proper BMW is anymore. They all seem to drive well (some extraordinarily so), but there sure is a large range of vehicles available that cater to a broad demographic. I've been a fan of BMW since the 70's, but the only one that I've owned was a E30 (back in '84 when the 325e first came out). I loved that car and rue the day that I sold it, so I'm a little biased.
That said I agree that the 135i seems to be a closer successor to the E30 than the current 3 Series does. I don't dislike the new 335i coupe, in fact I think that it's a beautiful car only it's more akin to a 6 Series. I like the more upright styling of the 1 Series coupe and I think that it's the right car for me if BMW can get the price point right. Of course, YMMV. BTW WolfsburgerMitFries, thanks for the comparsion to the Camaro. That was pretty funny. I can't believe that I ever actually considered buying one, but with a big V8 they were kind of fun to drive as long as you didn't deviate to much from a straight line. Although I love the lines of the new 1 Series coupe, I saw someone call it a Hyundai in another thread. Evidently it doesn't please everyone. However I for one am very happy with what I've seen and it's likely that the 135i will be the car that gets me back into a BMW after more than 20 years. |

I like the styling on both but there are definetly parts of each that I like better than the others. I like the lower 1/2 of the 135 front end and the upper 1/2 of the 335 front. I like the 135 rear and the 335 dual exhaust...
Both are amazing in design IMO

the back on the 135 looks better and wider due to the rest of the car being small(wider looks better in my opinion)
but i agree about the duale exhaust it looks better with a pipe on each side in stead of both on one side |

I think the 1 has a much bigger potential of getting a Phat M3 stance from the rear with wide tires than the 335i. The body is cut in at the rear fender a lot more. Lowered 1/2 inch and some 265/19's in the rear.... ummmm hmmmm
