2019 x7 buying advice??
Hello,
Was planning to buy a new x7 this fall but a local 2019 popped up with 30 k miles that has all the features i like. $58 k. I want to get a ppi inspection to make sure it’s not been wrecked abused. Should i take it to Bmw for this? Indy shop? It’s being sold by a local Ford dealership. Thanks! Last edited by Streetdaddy; 05-25-2023 at 09:32 AM.. |

Ignoring unusual market pricing, $58k for a 2019 X40i w/ 30k miles is high to me. Residuals on 2021s with that many miles fully loaded are $50-60k. I wouldn't pay 65-70% of MSRP for a 5yr old BMW, which is what that is priced at.

Bagekko,
Thank you! That’s exactly what i was looking for. I know with my current Mercedes gl 550 i bought with 30 k miles it needed a couple $1000 worth of maintenance the first couple years out of warranty ( only had 1 yr left). Still open to a used car, trying to find the sweet spot. So maybe wait for a 21 model for mid 50’s is a better play? |

From this time 3yrs ago on 2020s to fall for 2021s, we were mostly getting almost 10% off those days, unfortunately dealers are looking to make $10-20k on those lease turn ins they have now and pricing is $65-75k. I would think in the summer and fall there will be a ton of lease turn ins and pricing will come down. 21's started to arrive Aug 2020 and a fully loaded one I would hope to be priced $60-65k and you get 1yr factory warranty if not CPO'd.

Is there any advantage of selling vs turning in at end of lease? Do most people just turn in for convenience? Seems like there would be more on the classifieds??

Right now with the market 2020-21 leases anyone just turning it in would be a fool as easy to buyout & sell and make at least 10k. My sales guy called me last week just to check in and I said we will be buying out our lease in 2 months and he was salivating at possibly me getting a new one and getting my turn in, said they would give me a lot over residual on trade, but told him I am not interested in 2024 yet.
I got over 12% off after everything and my $96k sticker only has a residual of $48k, a dealer would list mine for $70k right now. Yeah I would expect to see more private party X7s this summer than usual for those who realize what it is worth.

It seems super loaded; MSport, Exec, Cold Weather, not sure what DA pkg, Integral Steering but not sure DHP, Factory hitch?, Night Vision?, from looking at the VIN. Sure it has low miles for a 2019, but I am a cheap pr!ck and wouldn't pay over $50k, so the conv for me would start at 45k lol. See if you can find a comparable on BMWUSA to see what the market might be.
Edit, too curious lol https://www.bmwusa.com/certified-pre...CW2C54KL084628 Holy cow $63k for a 2019 w/ 35k miles, that's outrageous. $50k for a 19 with 94k miles, are they insane. https://www.bmwusa.com/certified-pre...CW2C5XKL085475 I looked at used X7s about a month ago and pricing wasn't this crazy. Double edit, ok just looked at 2021s and its more reasonable, these places must be stuck with 2019/20s on pandemic pricing.

Looking at the carfax history of that vehicle there doesn't appear to be any service history so it's possible that car hasn't had any service done. (or it's possible whichever shop that did the service didn't report/record it).
I would take the VIN to a BMW service center and ask if they can pull up service history for it to see if it has had routine service done. |

Great idea. Love this forum! I guess a lot of leased cars get abused as people know they are giving them back in 3 years.

I got a new-to-me 2021 X7 40i a couple months ago from Audi dealership.
Looking back at my purchase process, here is what I'd do if I were you. Definitely take it for a pre-purchase inspection either to a BMW dealer or to a local reputable BMW shop (or maybe both, depending on the price). A BMW dealership will have an advantage because they can pull all service records. I assume the car should have been serviced at a dealership because it was under warranty and came with a free maintenance plan, so any reasonable owner should have serviced it at a dealership unless they had a legitimate reason not to (they live way too far from it or something along those lines). If the dealership doesn't see any service records then I'd stop the buying process immediately. Also, if you decide to do the inspection at a dealership, ask if their pre-purchase inspection is the part of the CPO process. My dealer said they do exactly the same inspection for all cars they CPO and when they gave me the report it came on a "BMW certified" form (but the "BMW Certified" text was crossed out ). This gave me more confidence - if the dealership does the same level inspection for their CPO vehicles, then it should be solid. Take a look at the car's accidents report to make sure it looks good. If the reports don't show any red flags, then your chances of getting a solid car are pretty high. Also, while you drive the car to a shop, listen for any abnormal sounds like squeaks, pops, rattles, etc. The car must be dead quite. Turning off HVAC and audio systems might be a good idea. On top of that you can always do a walk around inspection yourself. Try to see if there are any paint chips, scratches, rust, dents, etc. Inspect interior as well. Try to move all seats, check all windows, etc. Dealers don't always do that - they just check for error messages that don't necessarily show the full picture. Be picky. Don't let your excitement overrule your common sense. Regarding whether the car you're looking at is a good buy. You'll hear a lot of opinions on that, but please remember that pricing and availability significantly depend on where you live. The more people live in the area and want to buy the car the higher the prices and the fewer vehicles available - at least that's my experience in Chicago area where I live. It is also VERY hard to find a car with all options you want. Some people spend months and even years to find one. You need to decide how much time you're willing to spend on it. If you want a car now - go for it, otherwise - keep searching. Just make sure to check the car's value with KBB to make sure it's not overpriced. Good luck! Another thing I just noticed: the car is no longer under manufacturer's warranty. To me that would be a huge reason not to buy it to be honest. I'd only consider a car that still has at least 1 year of warranty left.
