playing .AVI files on a Mac (in iTunes)?

I've got a few .AVI files (video w/ audio) that I am trying to playback on my Mac, and I am having a bit of a problem.

I can get the video to play, but I can't get the audio to work.

any ideas?

Thanks.

Try installing perian: http://perian.org/ It adds the most popular video codecs to quicktime (which itunes uses as well).

VLC FTMFW....it's the first/default program on my Mac for videos...any particular reason you're trying to go the Itunes route? You could always use Handbrake

iTunes is pretty picky. The players mentioned here (VLC always works, Flip4Mac enables you to watch it in QuickTime) all work, but to have it play in iTunes, you're going to have to convert the AVI file into an iTunes-usable file using a program like iSquint.
