unlocking ECUs for tune

Is this ever going to happen stateside? I’ve been holding off on a tune hoping someone will be able to unlock the ECUs over here. Anyone remotely close?

☝🏼 like he said, they send them out to be unlocked. Crazy considering it’s been 2 years and nobody’s been able to do it.

No there isn’t only Femto. It’s not even bad anymore mine was a 4 day turn around. I sent it on a Monday and got it back on a Thursday.

Can you share who else unlocks LCI ECUs other than Femto?

Carbahn does it and if it is locked then you need to use the piggyback computer instead

Will not happen in USA for a very long time, it is a highly protected protocol. If more people know how its done the higher the chance of BMW patching it. Send it off to Femto.

It's so expensive! I spoke to my local shop in Australia and it's about $7K for both DMEs. Ouch.

The shop owner indicated there might be a solution coming to do it locally. Not sure how real though.

is that including a tune ?

unlock price is $1000 per ecu and $800 shipping there and back. you also need a Bm3 license registered prior to the ecus being shipped out $1000. so 7k even with a custom map seems excessive.

Some of y’all are getting 2 different unlocks confused. Pre 06/20 just requires a bench unlock which there is a bunch of guys doing that in the states. After 06/20 needs a femto unlock which is when it goes to Finland

No tune. They quoted $3300 AUD per DME, which is about $4500 USD total for both.

My car is June 2020 so fingers crossed it's just a bench unlock.

That puts it at $3800-$4000 to unlock before you start paying for tunes
