Need your advice for my new business.

My Mary Kay lady talked me into signing up also, and I would like to start making some money (and hopefully go full time with Mary Kay this year). Does anyone have any good advice on getting started?

Wife "tried" selling Mary Kay. Typical MLM (Multi Level Marketing).

$5k in inventory sits in my office since the more you buy the bigger the discount. I told her she got taken hook, line, and sinker. Spent a week on the sofa for that comment but when she figured it out that she was wrong she more than made up for it.

Unless you are the only one within your group to sell it, then it is a big waste of money.

All MLM's are a scam.

If you are going to lose any money on an inventory that you can not sell and you are a man, look into the ones that tries to sell "women lingerie" to MILF's . I hear the parties are fun

that's not true. mary kay has provided a lot of success for hundreds of thousands of people (not just women, believe it or not, men have had success with it too) worldwide. the thing about mary kay, and virtually all businesses run off sales or direct selling, is you only see the profitability if you're willing to put in the time to make it a profitable business. i've seen first hand the success stories that have come from working hard and building a successful mary kay business. there are national sales directors out there that make near 7-figure incomes that started out at the very bottom and worked their way up, just like any typical job. the opportunities are there, it just takes hard work and commitment to get there.

take china for example...MK was one of the first direct selling companies in china. over 400,000 women (and some men) currently sell mary kay in china and the ones that work hard at it have the opportunity to make more money than their male counterpart, which used to be unheard of there. within 5 years, china will be the largest market within the mary kay corp because of the successes of these salespeople.

i don't sell the stuff myself, but we'll just say i have a vested interest in that company.

to the OP - the sky really is the limit, but you just have to work hard to obtain your goals, as with any business. go for it, but just know that for it to be truly profitable, you must put the time into it at first to make it self-sufficient, which is what will eventually happen if you play your cards right.

As Blake said, you CAN make money in an MLM. It is not a pyramid scheme, and purely legal, as long as you're selling a product (which Mary Kay does), and not just collecting money from new recruits.

That said, my neighbor's wife sells lingerie by hosting parties where the women get to try them on. And, some of those women are HOT. No, I don't have pics, so don't even ask.

Congratulations on signing up with Mary Kay! It’s not always easy, but it has been a rewarding career for me and my family. Start building good habits, stay positive and be persistent. These are the foundations. Also, I would highly recommend using www.qtinventory.com they are an inventory and customer management system that has been specifically designed for Mary Kay. When you sign up, you import your inventory, and import your customers. This makes keeping track of and growing your business 1,000 times easier. That’s been the key to my success. Systems + positive attitude + persistence = a happy life.
