Why can't I fully disable DSC?

2021 M5 base.

I put it in 2WD mode, disable DSC, and I still get the power cut off once the rear starts to break the tires. I’m familiar with BMWs. I know pressing and holding down the traction button for a few seconds is how to do it.

What’s going on here? Any advice?

? If I put my car in 2WD mode, all the nannies are OFF. ALL.

Perhaps something in newer model years has changed. I'll agree with BMW if they put the nannies back on for 2WD mode as the car is dangerous as hell in 2WD mode without traction control or other nannies.

If you're in 2wd mode stop pressing the traction control button because you're just turning it back on... and switching OUT of 2wd mode lol. If you're already in 2wd you're good to go

from what i know bmw limits 2wd mode in first gear/2nd my lci does the same but what works for me is rolling a bit then punching it in 2nd itll get the back end to slide out a bit. then all hell breaks loose when you shift into 3rd. or you can tune the car like i did and have 0 traction in any gear

If you’re in 2WD mode, that’s it. Where it still controls shifts and traction I don’t know, but at least on paper, that’s as good as you can get. I think MDM is still on with 2WD? Maybe turn that off? Or maybe I’m wrong…

one click will put it into mdm off which is 4wd sport, a long hold of the traction control button will put it into dsc off which lets you access all 3 modes (2wd)

Not the case, you can max the speedo in 2wd lol. I think you're confusing bmws with mercedes lol I'm pretty sure there's was limited to a certain gear or speed when it came out at least.

To Op: Be careful out there, driving the F90 M5 without traction control
can land you in a ditch in no time.

So in 4wd sport, is traction control and / or DSC off? Not sure I completely understand the difference between regular 4wd and 4wd sport?

Traction control and stability control are different things. Although DSC is off, traction control is still provided by the rear diff in 2WD. In the G80 you can control the level of TC, we can’t.

Car is great in 2WD and way more controllable than many other “raw” 2WD monsters. Also you get a less diluted steering feel.

Chasing a 991 through the twisties and then sliding backwards through turn 3 I can vouch for this situation.

Most I will go to is M dynamic mode unless on a straight. The car has so much power and mechanical grip that when it lets go, it lets GOOOOOOOO

Ok I’ll admit one time in my 22 the kiddo says burnout dad. Who am I to say no.

Dropped it down into 2wd and did a nice rolling burnout in second. Until one of the systems shut the party down.

So no. We never really get to make all the traction decisions.

Btw. The ease with which it did the roller was astounding.

4wd sport gives more power to the rear that's it.

Ahh got it! So any practical value to that - or just for playing, showing off only?
