2022 M550i - is it mild hybrid? [solved: it's not]

I googled the interweb and it doesn't say whether it is or isn't.

Under the "energy flow" menu it seems to suggest it has a mild hybrid system ...

Thanks for alleviating my confusion.

Nah, that's a pure V8. No hybrid, mild or hot.

The LCI version of the m540i is a mild hybrid.

Yeah, it's pretty useless. They probably implemented a unified software platform to use across all models.

You're not referring to the charging of the battery when you let off the gas pedal?
Essentially initelligent alternator so rather than just continually charge the battery and consume power from the engine sapping fuel , it charges from waste energy when you take your foot off the gas

It's to make you feel better about driving a gas-guzzling tree-killing V8.

I too wondered about what the display really means. See attached document for detailed explanation .

Thanks, wow the Germans really overengineer things! That's a 20 page lay person explanation for charging the AGM....

I'm impressed

I remember when it was first introduced in about 2009, or so. Our MY11 B7 had a big "Efficiency Dynamics" sticker on the rear window but it doesn't seem to do much. Just recharges the battery when coasting, if I'm not mistaken.

According to the write-up, the alternator (stator) is de-energized when the car is accelerating which decreases the load on the engine while the battery is used to run the electrical system. They claim it can save up to 3% of fuel.
