2020 X3MC DME (Locked or Not??)
I just picked up a 2020 X3M Comp this last weekend. I am contemplating doing the BM3 OTS tune.
My build date on my car is 10/2019. This is the car build date, not the DME date. I was told by someone else, that the 2020 X3M cars don't need to be bench unlocked, and are totally free to be tuned. I know it does not need the FEMTO unlock for sure. But are most 10/2019 build date X3M's ready to be flashed and don't need the $250 unlock. I don't want to have to send it off to be bench unlocked. I searched and didnt find a definitive answer on this forum. TIA |

I have a 2020 X4MC (Build date is 10/2019 also) and have a BM3 Stage 1 93 tune installed. The DME is not locked, so you can install the tune yourself if you would like to do so... Love it!! You should have no issues at all.

Unless it's a CPO car and they did the latest software update... You should be able to check the last update and verify with PTF on whether or not it'll accept their tune, or need to be unlocked?

Mine was not a CPO car, but has 37k miles on it.
I have the calibration ID on the tune in the car, that I pulled form Car Scanner. Calibration ID: 3BCBCD69 |

ProTuningFreaks did not know. They told me to hook up the OBD-Ethernet cable (which i dont have, it would come with the BootMod3) and see if it says that it needs a bench unlock or not. So I still dont know for sure. I have not heard from anyone with a 2020 X3M that says it needed a bench unlock, especially with a 10/2019 build date.

Congrats, It's tunable. You can check for free. OBD2 enet cables are cheap and the BM3 and MHD app are free. The only hickup would be if the dealer updated with latest firmware, but scanning will tell you for sure.
I can help out with pricing only on a BM3 license...link to my fs ad below https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1974135 |

When you try flash, if it is locked with the software update it will say it. Do not force flash. You will just need a regular bench unlock worst case scenario. Not a femto unlock. |

That's exactly what mine said before I installed the BM3 tune.

I don't either... I just use simple math based on the pumps E content. It doesn't have to be perfect. I've had as high as E38-E40 on the OTS map, and as low as E20. You can definitely tell when the E content is higher, because it has waaaaay more torque!

How did you know you were E38 to E40 and down to E20? Without a sensor?
The car has a 17.2 gallon tank. So if I add 5 gallons of E85. And fill the rest with 93 I should be around E30. I bought my BM3 license. Will try the E30 tune when the license comes. |

Full disclosure… my Buddy 99% of the time was at the fill station filling his GTR before I’d mix my fuels to tell me the current pumps E content. So, I’d fill accordingly to the amount of fuel I had in my tank. Currently, my M2 Comp does have an ethanol sensor, so I can use it as my gauge for my wife’s X3MC.

Put in 5.2 gallons or E85, and filled up the rest and took 9.7 gallons of 93 (E10). Loaded E30 stg 1 OTS tune. Idled for 15 minutes and drive about 8 miles. Tested it out at WOT. It's insane. Too much power it's insane.

I just got my 2020 X4M I’m not sure if my build date but i know it was in 2019, my heated seats are currently not working, i was going to send it to bmw but i don’t want to get my DME locked. But If they were to lock it, could it possibly require a femto unlock? Or is that just for the brand new cars and I’d only need to bench unlock if they do so?
