The BMW M5, what many consider a “perfect” car that needs no further tweaking- others, like me, look at as a starting point….

I’ve told no lie when it comes to my writings about the F90 M5. I truly love this car. You guys all know that by now, I’ll spare the outpouring of feelings this time.

As with many toys before the F90, I’ve started to grow a tad bored with the routine M5 tricks. I’ve decided to turn things up a notch...

CARBAHN

As many have learned by now – this is Steve Dinan’s new company, and they are turning a lot of heads with their wicked fast M8 projects advertised here and there.

Chris was the point of contact over at Carbahn. Solid guy. He was happy to answer the truck load of questions I unloaded onto him- most of which pertaining to warranty. I was put to ease when I learned the process in the event, I needed to call upon this “W” card

From what I’ve noticed- super smooth power delivery all the way up. It doesn’t have that “holy sh*t” pulling difference that I noticed from my stock F82 to my BM3 F82 M4. But considering it’s the only safe alternative available for the LCI just yet, I have no complaints and I’m very happy with it. Install seemed to be effortless. Took about 30 minutes to complete. Clean and easy placement allowed for a neat install.

I purchased the matching warranty option for the stage 1 controller kit- and am anxiously awaiting the full software upgrade for the 2021 + M5.

BBS FI-R

I laugh at myself on this one. Not only was I the guy who said “rims are a waste of money” I was also the guy who spoke about his lack of patience at great length.

And yet, here we are. I placed my order with Ryan for a set of 21” FI-R wheels in April of 2022. I would’ve never guessed it would’ve taken almost 7 months from start to finish on this project – longer than I waited for the car itself. These wheels are just a work of art. I find myself really getting lost in a “thousand-yard gaze” with these. Especially with the titanium studs from Future Classic.

With Ryan’s help from IND (DUH) we decided to go with “Satin White Gold” as the finish.

The addition of a 21” set of wheels from a 20” set required further adjustments and fine tuning. Yes, the 305’s with the stock 789M wheels were beefy. But practicality went out the window. Especially with spacers and KWs. Rubbing was almost impossible to avoid. And putting anyone in the back seat was a hard “NO” which kind of defeats the purpose of the M5 altogether.

Currently – running no rear spacers, and 15MM in the front. KW HAS kit as before.
295/30/21 & 285/30/21 for rubber.

No Rubbing with the current set up!


IND PLATE KIT

Whoever thinks of these miscellaneous parts at IND should be given a Noble prize, honestly. I was so intrigued at the amount of hardware in this kit, and the price point that I decided to order one. Ryan to the rescue again.

Added some flare with the vintage “powered by M” plate painted in Fashion Grey. All trunk rattle eliminated. And a damn shame an M5 doesn’t come with hardware like this- but we get it. Finally, I can add a plastic / clear cover to my plate and have hardware long enough to secure it without screwing into the body of the trunk.


DOWNSTAR ENGINE HARDWARE

One of the coolest/ cheapest mods available. Shoutout to (@_m5_guy) on this one. $80 and a choice of 5 different colored hardware for the main bolts/screws in the engine bay. What a nice final touch. Obviously wanted to match up with the Gold on the CCB’s


3D DESIGN SIDE GILL & BLK COMPETITION VENT

An inverted play call on the standard M performance carbon side vent. Wanted to change it up, and I think the “competition” lettering on the sides of the car are much cleaner touch in my opinion.

M PERFORMANCE CARBON FIBER LCI GRILLE

Another Carbon Fiber addition offered by M Performance. IND and Ryan worked their magic again. Went for a painted “M5” badge in Fashion grey to compliment the rest of the car. You can never go wrong with details. Such a great addition. I was bummed initially that the LCI Carbon grilles do not come with “Competition” badging, but the painted touch cancels that void.


STEERING WHEEL 2.0

While she was running through the stages of the BMW build progress- I had many late nights building my shopping cart, studying available parts, thinking of ways to take it a step further.

I had asked to order the M Performance steering wheel but denied due to DAP (driver’s assistance). Then I was told that Tartufo leather rolls were impossible to find.

Ordered a wheel from AZA auto wheel (THE BEST) and now finally- fulfilling my original dream of blending the two together! Shout out Bryan at EuroWerks, Eric E3 Customs and AZA auto wheels for the perfect blend and a dream come true.

It was a nice touch to add the Tartufo leather to my Competition carpet piping to tie it all together. MAJOR shoutout to Eric and his team. Very talented group indeed!

** THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG W THE OG AZA WHEEL- JUST WANTED A CHANGE **



EVENTURI TURBO INLETS

Tough to really comment on the airflow or responsiveness – but the added Carbon Fiber is always welcomed and appreciated.

LOL, same! I thought that had to be it. Grabbed that in black and white immediately, but missed the earlier part of the drop so had to grab them on StockX. Was just rocking the desert Williams V hoodie from the drop today! Probably going to rock the Coaches jacket tomorrow, and I've got the rug in my storage unit lol. Didn't have the right place for it yet, but had to have it regardless. And the ceramic tray is wrangling my keys currently. Loved the Vitality color way for everything it came in.

So I’ll clarify by saying I felt like it was MY safest option bc if the warranty coverage.

This is a piggy back essentially- not the a full software upgrade- which is what I’m waiting for.

Carbahn offers a warranty as a separate purchase for their controller kits which pretty much was sold to me as “if bmw gives you an issue. Send us the bill and you’re covered”

I also know from experience that Steve Dinans cars and parts are not built without thought and careful calculation to ensure they don’t just add you stupid horsepower and then blow up. They are safe upgrades

I haven’t read much into racechip to give a fair opinion on what they offer!

They should fit both pre-LCI and LCI, nothing changed on the side vents with the LCI.
