Hey guys, I recently purchased a 2015 BMW 328i about a month ago, 61k miles on the odometer.
The previous owner had taken great care of it and cosmetically modified it with H&R springs, a front lip, side skirts, carbon fiber spoiler, rear diffuser & carbon wrapped the interior. It's been driving amazing since I've had it, no complaints at all. Under the hood is all stock atm but I've been doing research on modifications and there are so many I don't really know where to start. Im a beginner when it comes to modifying cars and bmw knowledge but I'm very interested on learning! Looking to add some speed and make the car sound a bit more aggressive as well. Any tips or recommendations would greatly be appreciated, thank you in advance! |

As I'm sure others will chime in, making sure the car is up to date on maintenance would be a great first step. I'm not too familiar with the N20 motor in the 328i, but some simple but cost effective ways to add sound and speed, would be any combination of a tune/exhaust/intake. I've been using the BM3 tune on mine and I've had zero problems with it. Stage 1 tune requires no additional modifications and should give you a pretty decent bump in HP

Congrats on the new car!
As joey said, start with maintenance. Since you're asking about labor, I assume you're not doing the work yourself. BMWs are reliable when maintained, but the cost of ownership is definitely higher than a Honda. Make sure you're repairing the car as needed. An intake will make some noise, but may end up lowering your power. You can install this with a basic set of tools. Different brands cost different amounts. An exhaust will also make noise, but won't significantly affect power on it's own. An exhaust is more involved, but it also something that can be done at home. Different brands cost different amounts. A tune from MHD or BM3 will cost you around $500-$650 new (BM3 can be bought with 1 remaining license for around $400). You can flash the tune yourself with a laptop or cell phone. Spend a ton of time researching before buying something. There are a ton of products and a ton of info. |

Order doesn't matter much, but you're going to get more bang for your buck out of a tune since it'll add some significant power

I care more about performance and am fine with a stock looking/sounding car. I started with a bm3 Stage 1 tune, then a charge pipe (mine blew up), then downpipe, then intercooler, then bm3 Stage 2. I don't see the need for an intake, although I could see buying a turbo inlet. I'd like an M Performance Exhaust (MPE), but I'm not in a rush to get one. If I were you I'd still start with a Stage 1 tune, that should keep you happy with performance for a while. Since you're in FL, so you should also look into a bigger intercooler to handle hotter days. |
