E46 M3 w/ a Chevy Motor! WTF

I hope this is not a repost. I did a search and did not find a reference to this video:

I can't believe someone would take a BMW, gut it and put a Chevy motor in it. There are other ways to 1000 claimed hp. I bet the car handles horrible as I imagine the weight distribution is now favoring the front of the car.

How many guys does it take to open the hood of a BMW.....?

Kinda sad that someone would do that to an M3.

I know. I would rather have an M3 with 100 hp than one with a Chevy engine. Where do they take the car for service? Chevrolet? And if the people that were trying to open the hood were the same people who installed the engine, the car will not be running for long.

That's not an M3, it's a regular 3 series with a widebody kit. The rear wing is hideous.

I dont think its an M3...it is never said anywhere in the video that its an M3 and it has silver trim vice shadow trim which makes me think it is probably a E46 Coupe Carcass.

While I agree putting a chevy engine in a BMW is nothing short of ridiculous.... there are many E36's running around with LS1's under the hood. The LS1 is not only extremely light but also capable of extreme amounts of reliable power and I would hate to ever underestimate one.

LS swaps into E30s and E36s are actually pretty popular. But I'm more a fan of keeping it in the BMW family. Rob Levinson was (maybe still is) transplanting an E46 M3 motor into an E36 M3 - the problem with these transplants though is that the wiring is MUCH more complicated. The price point and ease of install is what makes an LS swap appealing.

According to a semi-local tuner swapping an LS1 into an E36 M3, the LS1 is actually 10 lbs lighter than the S50/2.

I saw a swap in progress last week and there are some challenges. The guy said the two hardest things so far were getting the gauges and a/c to work. Most just use autometer gauges but the guy wants to use the OEM cluster in this swap.

Personally, I would never do this.

How is it retarded to make more power with less weight. LS1's are very reliable. I've got an e46 M3 and it's impossible to make more power unless you spend a couple thousand dollars with a turbo or supercharger. I did a reflash with headers & no cats and the car didn't feel any faster.

I'm always amazed at the bias on forums. I can tell you the supposed s54 is no great engine. Wow, a cast iron straight six. oh my god did it come from the future. I know the response is going to be it can rev to 8000rpms. Why were these engines self destructing in the M3 but not in M coupe. It was due to the Mcoupes lower red line. You can take almost any production engine run it to 8000 rpms periodically.

I worked for Toyota as a factory rep. People would overrev the motors on the Celica GTS's. The ECU would record the engine speed at the time of the overrev. Some engines would hold together all the way to 12,500rpms.

My point is let's keep some perspective.
