Question Tech Inspection Form - where do I go with it ?

I am planing to sign up for BMW CCC event and they require you to get Tech Inspection Form, complete it and bring it with you ... Where do you guys go to get it done and how much doest it cost ? Do you need it every time you go on the track or just once a year ?

Your BMWCCA should have a list of approved shops from a dealership to local performance shops. Usually free or $20, but some ask for much more.

Usually your local club chapter has a list of approved shops......if not check with NASA or SCCA they will also have a list of tech inspectors who issue logbooks for each group that can do tech inspections as well....

In general most high performance shops can do it...Dinan isn't far from you and they do it

Check you local club's driving events website. They should have a link to it. You usually have to use that club's form. Tech inspections need to be done 30 days before an event, so they are not good for an entire year.

Depends. Some local dealers I would do that with, some not so much. Best bet is to find a local Indy BMW shop to do it. The best bet is to find one your club recommends- sometimes they give discounts.

Well, if you are in Santa Barbara, you can bring it to HP Autowerks, Inc. for the tech inspection!

Last time I totally forgot about the tech inspection, and when I got there one of the guys just signed it off for me. This time I thought I would do it right, I went to the BMW CCA Los Angeles page, went to their links, and contacted one of their sponsors... guy just wrote back that it's $105... what a joke.

Anyone know of another place in Burbank/Glendale/LA area that could do this cheaper? If not I'll just show up and play dumb again...

Do it yourself. It is common sense, ck your fluids etc. You sign the form at least here on the East Coast, all the BMW assoc, even state on there sites that you can perform the inspection. Did you have you brake fluid changed in the last six months? I do not know how many miles on your car but your brakes are still good, Itracked my car 4 times this year and my pads are still good. 4,000 miles on the car. Do not worry do it yourself. My opinion.

It is true, you can do it yourself. However, I would recommend you take it to a competent shop where they can put your car of a lift and get under it. They will follow the inspection form and check the items your driving event wants to have looked at. Most clubs or event organizors will have sponsors who will gladly inspect your car. Think about what you are about to do, and that is drive your car very agressively and at speed. You want to make sure the car is ready for this - hopefully your instructor will keep you in a "ready" position. Have fun.

I took my 06 M3 to Weatherford twice - no problems, but I was able to schedule it with routine service so no charge.

Try Roger Kraus Racing (they sell tires and service all local SCCA races). Located in Castro Valley. 510 582 5031

Another option is Edge Motorsports in Dublin 925 479 0709 - big BMW enthusiasts.

In theory Golden Gate chapter prohibits diy inspection, but they don't seem to look very closely at the form.

Bavarian Professionals in Berkeley (http://www.bavpros.com). They're pretty cool people.
And if you're a BMWCCA member & the car is under BMW warranty, the inspection is free.
