Help with a ticket

Hey guys so I was pulled over long story short officer said my car was loud and I shouldn’t be in sport mode little did he know I had a midpipe and downpipe but on the ticket he didn’t write exhaust modification instead he put sale of exhaust Systems code 27150.1 California, if anyone has ever heard of this please let me know because I don’t know what to do.

I think he did have some idea that you had modified it, based on the text of the statute.

Just curious - does a similar code requirement exist in Florida?

You live in Calfifornia, pay the ticket and bring your car back to stock. Some states, such as Florida, have no inspections and one can do whatever to the exhaust with no problems.

You probably need to go to the referee but he will screw you over here in CA as he/she will scrutinize it--- pull the parts, clear it and reinstall.

Not saying that the OP has done anything wrong here, but I feel very schizophrenic on this.
As a car guy I love a great exhaust sound, but... We live in what was a quiet neighborhood some way from a main road and never used to hear exhaust noise. Now at all times of the day and night I can very clearly and frequently hear exhaust noise from cars being run to the redline. Based on brief observation, these are usually Mustangs or Chargers/Challengers (not judging here...).
I've seen a few reports online of police starting to clamp down on this, although not local to us. I don't want anyone to get a ticket, but some consideration for residents would be nice.
Somewhere where there are no residents? - Have at it!

I wouldn't touch your car. The officer messed up the ticket to your benefit. As your post already alludes to, the code section he cited, CA 27150.1, is directed at BUSINESSES engaged in the sale and installation of exhaust systems that fail to meet emissions requirements. I'm assuming you don't regularly sell and install exhaust system. Instead, you were the buyer of such a system. 27150.1 then does not apply to you.

I'd go to court and explain this to the judge. Ticket should be dismissed.

Couldn't agree more. My neighborhood is off what I would call a moderately busy road - nothing crazy, but not a quiet back street either, and I'm pretty sure it's the perpetual filming location for the newest Fast and The Furious movie. Regular intervals throughout the day, full WOT runs to the redline, over and over. I own a fast car and I like a fast car and I appreciate a good exhaust note, but there are actually times during the day when I don't want to hear other people's fast cars (or their noisy slow cars, which is probably more likely)...

And while I'm making myself sound curmudgeonly, those kids can get off my lawn too.

If its a fix it ticket. Doesnt California allow you to pay more to "make it go away"? I know they do that on window tint and no front plates. Guy at work just paid more on the fine to not deal with it.

I suppose. It's called a bribe. Not limited to California either.

I dont think this statute allows for that like no front plate or tint ...

He has to see the referee.

This is not true. You need to have your ticket signed after correction and inspection in Cali.

It's the ones thinking they can do straight piped WOT launches to 80mph on a residential street that ruin it for us. These people piss everyone off and I almost can't blame the cops for writing tickets. They should stick to the highway, the open road, the canyons, industrial areas, or the track. No need to swing pee-pees in a residential area.

Frankly, these shouldn't be fixit tickets. These should be noise disturbance tickets with high fines. We should be allowed to have a loud exhaust, just restrict making noise in certain areas.

Completely agree.

They actually addressed this in our local council meeting last week. Constant modified exhausts in residential neighborhoods driving people crazy all all hours of the night.

It's pretty much the only thing everyone agreed on.

I just paid 81 bucks vs 25 to clear a "no front plate" ticket --- no need to inspect or fix... so to your point there are certain codes that can be paid to clear vs inspected and cleared.

To me 56 bucks was worth the my time saved all day.
