Question on picking up Dog Poop

Obviously I walk my dog every day (he's a Frenchie) and Friday's are trash day.

I always pick up his poop in disposable bags I carry with me. On Friday's, I throw out the poop in the closest neighbor's trash can. I always seal the bag so it's not loose or anything.

My neighbor saw me do it this morning (not a neighbor I know, like 10 houses down) and said it was rude to do this.

I didn't get into an argument or anything with her - I just apologized and moved on.

Is this bad etiquette or something?

Here in Boulder, we're a big dog town. This comes up often on questions of etiquette in our Facebook pages.

Me? I would just be appreciative that you didn't leave your dog's shit for me to pick up, so I would have no problem with it. But some people don't want a stinking trash can sitting in their garage for the other 6 days out of the week because someone dumped a bag of shit in there.

I always just carry it until I either find a public trash can (there are many out on our walking trails) or bring it home...

Bagged or no... pickup day or not... shoveling your chip onto someone else is never ok.

Usually - the folks that would do it, wouldn't mind someone else doing it to them, and the folks that mind it being done, wouldn't do it to someone else.

Ya gotta find a neighbor on your walk that would put his shish in your trash can.... that's your huckleberry.

People are weird. Some people get mad if your dog poops or pees on their lawn even if you clean up. Its not even like they have immaculate lawns or something. I don’t really see an issue with throwing a bagged poo into a can, but I try only to do it before they are picked up. Putting it in a empty can is more likely to trigger these people.

Tyga11 i'm with you on this argument, but i have been duly corrected by many people. at the end of the day, that trashcan is not your property, so it's not ok for you to use.

i now do my duty and carry the doodie to a public trashcan, or back to my own can.

Yeah - it's always before it's picked up. I'm not throwing it in an empty trash can. Our trash isn't picked up until the afternoon and I only walk my dog in the neighbor since he's sensitive to the heat.

There are people in my neighborhood who put up signs on their grass or yard that says not to let your dog on it.

I'm with both of you. I will drop the bag in someone's trash can ONLY if it is before the garbage truck has come.

I don't understand people who have signs or give a hard time about the dogs going on their lawn, especially when I clean it up. What do they do about the birds, cats, squirrels, rabbits, other wildlife using their lawn throughout the day?

At least OP is considerate enough to ask. I can't believe some ppl insist upon and are perfectly fine w doing it even if the 'victim' already voiced their displeasure. Talk about lack of boundaries. Like many conflicts, it boils down to selfishness and why can't other ppl bend to their supposedly all-important needs/wants.

I would be upset if I noticed it. Thinking you would not want me dumping my cat's litter box bagged or not in your trash can right? I dis like it when my buddy comes over and field strips his butt's into my trash can, it stinks to high hell. I use mine for yard debris and clippings when I'm lazy and don't feel like using the tractor to gather up the stuff in the trailer.

Glad to hear you police your dog's mess when I lived in NoVa people seemed to think it was fine to crap in your yard and leave it.

Huge animal lover and all that jazz but....
I wouldnt mind if someone used my trash for their poopie bag but I would not use theirs. It smells horrendous (in Florida sun(or anywhere)) so I would not do it.

This is my rule, I only walk my dog on the street side of me to go on the small section of grass (usually owned by the city/town)
I pick up and take home the tied bag of doodie
I don't ever let him go on someone elses main yard area.

My wife was walking our dog and he pooped on a neighbors yard 5 houses down. It was 4am and she thought she was slick and didnt pick it up.
I got an email from said neighbor with his RING video. Needless to say, she always has a bag anytime she leaves the house now.

I just carry my dog's poop bag home. As others have said, I wouldn't mind being a dog owner, but I also wouldn't presume to use someone else's trash bin.

I dont put my dogs poop in my trash can. i use my neighbors.

why would i want someone putting their poop in my trash can when i dont even do that?

all jokes aside, i put my dogs poop in my trash and dont even think about putting it in someone elses, especially if i dont know them. Its not my trash can, im not entitled to its use.

I'm going to be 100% honest with you. Please don't put a bag of dog squeeze in my garbage.

Thank you

I keep my shit/piss on my stuff and don't involve other people and i expect the same in return. I don't wanna walk on my grass with your dog's piss and shit. It's your dog keep it on your lawn. Rant over.

With the OP's issue, it's not that big a deal if properly secured, but if you can make it to your trash can relatively soon, why not just wait a bit.

I don't care, but that is most likely because there is already a lot of dog shit in my trash can. And my wife had the audacity to ask for a 3rd dog, hell no.

I could see it being problematic if I didn't own a dog depending on how close the trash can stands to the house I guess.

This. I love animals but stay the fuck off my grass. I work hard to keep a nice lawn for my and my kids’ use. It’s not your pet’s bathroom. Even if you clean it up (and most of the time, it’s not cleaned up well and there are lasting streaks of shit). And with piss, when one dog goes, every other dog that follows will want to go, and it eventually kills the grass.

People are mostly dumbasses. I wouldn't unless I knew them even then I'd probably still take it home or use the public one if near by.

Honestly, throwing it in a handy garbage can is better than not picking it up at all or what's worse are the idiots who pick it up in a poop bag and then leave the bag on the curb. For those who are saying peoples garbage cans on the curb are their property, sure, it is, but it's also on the curb to be picked up to go to the dump....it's not like they are leaving it in the sun to warm up before they bring it back into the house.
