So I brought a 2021 BMW X5 M50i
Hey Bimmer Friends,
Thanks for the responses to my last question. So I have a couple questions regarding the service and maintenance packages that Im sure you all have came across before on this forum I brought a 2021 BMW X5 M50i 2,600 Miles CPO : good through 7/2026 (no mile limit) They offer me the BMW Maintenance Ultimate Care+2 for $2,900 And the Tire Package for $2,915 Im thinking the tire package is worth it since I have the 22 ' inch rims but Im thinking the service package is probably something I can go without. Its only good for 4 years or 75,000 miles Thoughts? Would you guys go with the service package [IMG][/IMG] |

Wheel and tire package really depends on the conditions of the roads you drive on. If you live somewhere or frequent places that see the roads trashed up by winter storms…it might be a good bet…maybe.
Usually the replacement value for tires is prorated to the tread wear…so if you used 75% of the tread life…they may only comp you 25% of the tire’s value Also to note…if you incur any damage…what would the likely damage be? Most likely…curb rash might be the main issue…and I surmise re-coating 1 wheel at an independent shop might be the cheaper way to go. Hit a big pothole and blow out a tire and bend a rim? You most likely only will damage one wheel or one side…max…so again what would be the a la crate replacement cost of one (or two) rims and tires? Remember these packages are designed to be profitable for the dealer…they take into account what potential benefits they are likely to pay you and have determined it’s a good bet for them. As for maintainence…I think they are generally an ok deal…you’re usually prepaying at a discount for services that would inevitably be rendered in the future. Even if you pass…if you know of a good independent shop…that can be your route to go as well |

I did not purchase the wheel protection because repairs are typically $100-200 for minor rash. I'm pretty careful so I don't expect to spend north of $1000 in repairs and our roads aren't bad enough to be concerned with bends in the rim, especially with my 20inch setup.
I did pre-pay maintenance since I do plan on keeping my M50i for at least 7 years/100k miles. |

Is the base maintenance package available for you? Or that's the cheapest? Maintenance may be worth it based on your CBS and next brake change interval. Those M brakes are over $1k, but hard to justify $2900 of prepaid as oil change cost is de minimus.
Those of us that purchase the car new had a $700 maintenance package option which was a better buy Lastly I think the wheel tire package is a complete rip off. You have to assess your chances of damaging your wheel other than curbing it... The real potential value is tire replacement. To put it this way, You're better off buying the exact same tires from tire rack and buying tire insurance, than paying $2900.
