UpSolute Chip for E90 330i

I just spoke to the Upsolute dealer in Miami and he said that the ECU chip for the 330i just became available and produces gains of around 15 horsepower. He said its $375, and would take 1-2 days as he needs the module. Does this sound like a good deal?

Do a search for "upsolute" and you'll find this thread http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7120

It's 10 pages long and the conclusion is, that chip hasn't been proven to give any gains. So unless they can produce a dyno showing 15 hp gain, I'd stay away.

You are talking forced induction vs. naturally aspirated. Two TOTALLY different realms in the world of engine tuning.

Any chip that is going to be worthwhile will come from Turner Motorsport and if they do release one at all it is at least a year away based off the time it took to release software for the E46 engines.

Are there any major risks associated with chipping the car? I'm thinking of chipping it and then running a dyno for all of you to see whether it really does increase HP or not.

if you chip a car and not happy with it or somethings wrong could you unchip it and make it stock again. someone should just do it and dyno it

Well, the right way would be to run a stock basline dyno first.
Install the chip.
Return to the same exact dyno machine, see if any gains or losses were had.

If you did this, you'd definitely be doing the E90 community a great service. If you had gains, I'd definitely be buying one the next day.

Yes but the Audi has a turbo, our cars are N/A as stated above chip tuning a forced induction engine is a whole different ball game. You can't adjust boost in our cars because we don't have any.

Also the 330i has the same motor as the 325i. It's going to be much harder for companies to squeeze HP out of the 330i motor as it is already tuned from BMW, 15hp is harder to get out of the 330i then the 325i.

I ran REVO in my R32 and it was pretty crazy definitely have to worry about running good fuel because it becomes very sensitive to octane and you get nice ping.

But in a nutshell, chipping a NA they remove the speed limiter and bump up the timing (dont know how they'll do that with valvetronic though as it's supposed to be optimized for that anyway)

yip, I htink the 325i would probably fare better than the 330i

like others have pointed out, not fair to compare a TURBO to a naturally aspirated engine
