M8 Future? Value? Where will it lead?

Hey guys
What opinion do you guys have on the future of the M8. Will it be made for a long run? End run?
It seems with the low production numbers it might become collectible?
Any thoughts on that you long time owners feel?
Where will this car be in 10 years? Discontinued?
Only electric by ???
Resale in the future.
I bought mine for the long run. I'd like to keep it 10 years as I only summer drive the car. It will never see snow or salt. I've had cars for up to 30 years before....will be one of those?
Wondering what the future holds for BMW's flagship offering.
In my town this car is very rare. I've not seen another yet. I live in city of near half a million.
At the big BMW meets this summer I was the only one with a 4 door.
One other guy with the 2 door.
So in Ontario there isn't many so far. Dealer verified this as well. Not a big seller. Will this make it more desirable eventually?

I've wondered the same thing. It's obviously a small segment of their sales. I thought they were kinda on the way out when they got rid of the coupe for a year. I am curious to see what happens after this current life cycle of them in the next 4 years.

Other than the Gran Coupe, I would not be surprised to see the coupe and cabriolet dead in a few years time as there have been many articles and rumors circulating BMW pulling the plug on the 8. As for future collectable, I am doubtful, there isn't exactly much that sets the 8-series apart from other similar BMW models.

Agreed, other than the styling. The coupe roofline, and overall car, is quite beautiful.

It might be the last V8 BMW, if so it might hold value.

There are still V8 BMW's in development.

If they make more V8s then probably not go up in value, if they only make it for a couple of years it might hold value. I am not expecting it to though personally.

I sure am no expert on the resale of BMW's but my feeling is that it may hold a decent value if it is discontinued after another couple years. Provided in the future if they still sell gas anywhere...lol
Low sales will help too.

V8 AMG jumped in value when MB announced virtual end of sale for V8 models.
Don't see that with M .....

I believe BMW announced it would buck the trend and make V8's until 2030.

Yeah I really don't see this car holding its value once the whole shortage problem is resolved. If BMW follows AMG's lead and discontinues all of their V8's then it may slow the depreciation but I think it will still continue to depreciate.

Had a manual trans been an option, perhaps there’d be an argument for reduced depreciation or potential “collectible” status. But as is… just a great car to drive and enjoy now. IMO, of course

I don't think this is a good time to buy a new car. Once the shortage ends, the value will go down.

Even when BMW is finished with manufacturing their V8 engines, I doubt they'll increase the value of their cars. this is just my opinion am not really sure

Look no further than the past history of the BMW 8 series several years ago.....same features....low volume, high horsepower, high maintenance costs, unique styling for the times. I really believe that because of the shortage of new cars, and high prices for used cars, owners are getting false security that their new generation 8 series are not depreciating at a fast rate but probably heading for a big fail in 3-4 years.

So, part of the question as it relates to this thread is why are you buying the car? Are you buying it as an investment or because you like it? I buy my cars because I really like and want that car without really considering where the car is going to be in 3-4 years unless I'm leasing it and then it affects the payments. I recognize it's going to be lower, but I want to enjoy the car for whatever amount of time I'm going to have it.

I agree with this, there are only a handful of actual cars you would be buying new today for an investment, and M8 is not one.

It might be true the limited amount of M8 production and top of the line models kept in great shape in about 10-20 years might bring great money but for the short term no way. Only one offs and special editions really hold value short term. But I don't think paying MSRP right now is going to destroy your financial freedom in 4 years or maybe you already looking at the wrong vehicle.

I see it as a win either way. If they hold value, great for the car I have. If they don't, I'll probably end up picking up another one highly depreciated.

Also the other thing the 1st gen 8's had going for them is a bespoke V12 engine (and even that didn't help a lot). This one just gets the run of the mill, in multiple M series, V8.
