BMW App Locate Vehicle

I have read many threads about this but can't find an answer.

I have a early 2014 330d f30 and I am using the BMW app. When I try to locate my car from a distance using the app, I get an message saying cannot locate vehicle if it is more than 1 mile away, which doesn't really make sense.

I believe this was changed towards the end of 2014 and it then allowed the vehicle to be tracked from anywhere.

My question is how do I get his working on my vehicle? Is there anything that can be updated etc so get it working?

not sure. maybe if you have 3g, it's already turned off now?
