He never said "how good they are" if you didn't catch on. What's wrong with trying to make a car faster?

170 additional or 170 total power in your car?

bmwusa.con says that 325 has 215 and 330 has 255 :

you gotta be kidding me, 170 additional horsepower?

it's total power, dyno results can vary between different brands of dynonameter, as well as the conditions the car is ran under. Just look a t hunter's dyno result and compare it to diesel's dyno, hunter got about 150tq whereas diesel got about 250tq!

can't wait for the results, I'm curious to see if the fujita intake would actually decrease the hp/tq slightly aftering reading your description on what you felt/heard after the intake install, keep us posted

170 from an engine rated at 215 is within normal range for auto (automatics usually have a 20-22% loss in a RWD drivetrain).

The stock airbox is well engineered. With the M54 engines in the E46, it's not uncommon to LOSE a bit of power when going from the stock box to an aftermarket cone filter. I get the impression you're new to the BMW community if you're expecting any sort of gain from typical bolt-on modifications...

What I'm curious about is the remarkably weak torque output. My 2.5L E46 (albeit a 5 speed) puts down more than that.

16-17% loss versus 20-22% loss. It's roughly a 5% difference that scales with total output.

Do remember that some dynos (mainly Dynojets) are optimistic. The 201 hp figures in the link you quoted are almost certainly a bit inflated.

You're right I am new. Just don't understand why would people spend big money on mods that actually take away power? Again I'm new to all this mods thing

we obviously expected the mod to give power not take.
