I had DINANs front monoball thrust arm bushings installed today at my dealership ( 3 hr install, cost was $240 under bmw employee pricing ) and it's quite possibly the best mod I've ever done, no exaggeration! It truly makes the steering and suspension feel like a pre-EPS M car. Feels like hydraulic steering now and it's completely transformed the steering feel. I also have the Dinan HAS coil over system dialed in just right and this just completed the whole setup. Exactly what I had hoped for and more.
So I've now driven almost 200 miles already since I simply can't stop driving it so I think I've had enough driving time to post my thoughts.. Mixed driving styles ranging from the "normal civilized BMW driver" to the "highly spirited BMW driver" and lastly the "deranged lunatic a-hole BMW driver" The car is now super direct and immediate, has perfect steering weight and resistance ( seriously..perfect ), and the entire suspension setup feels like one solid piece from the front wheels directly to the steering wheel. No bump steer, no loose and disconnected feeling under heavy braking and turning or uneven crappy roads, and there literally is zero delay to your inputs, just immediate, solid, tactile response you can feel in the palm of your hands when holding and turning the steering wheel. Another really cool change is how planted and solid the car feels even just driving straight on the highway, there is now zero play in the suspension and the best part is there really is no noticeable degradation in NVH which honestly was very unexpected. It truly is one of THE BEST mods I've ever done period. In closing if you want the suspension and steering to be as perfect as the M5's drivetrain a really good coil over HAS kit like DINANs and their front monoball thrust arm bushings are simply a must have. I think even just the monoball kit would be a huge upgrade This entire setup IMO makes the already amazingly capable M5 comp to complete driving perfection. To me my M5c is now a super sedan with no peers and any of the very few minor shortfalls the F90 had now perfected it really is the best sports sedan on the planet. So happy now lol. I've literally been waiting all day to type this little review, I feel like I need everyone to know about this severely, outrageously, underrated F90 upgrade. Trust me, it's not just "good for the track" it's actually perfect for a daily driven or weekend warrior F90 M5 with what I think to be a zero downside upgrade. Soooo, take 2 monoballs in the morning and reply to this thread, Doctors orders. If you value a perfectly precise and balanced handling F90 M5 you will be VERY glad you did ![]() Thanks for reading and sorry for the super long post, I'm just so pleased with the outcome. Seriously though, if possible do these mods, you'll just enjoy the car so much more. Sorry no pics. Did you order the rear arms too? If not you really need to. Been running the monoball/rear am setup for the past two years with my kw v4. Completes the package.
Still waiting on their sway bars. I hear they are supposed to be ready soon... |

I've had these sitting in my garage waiting to go on the car. Sounds like I need to get my ass in gear and install them. I'm looking to add the rear kit in the future as well.
Also looking forward to sway bars… |

So you did the rears even on a competition model? I guess the comp has metal bushings already vs rubber in the non comp but I was told it still would be an upgrade. So it helped a good amount? They are pricey but it seems like the next thing to do. It feels really good now so the same difference in the rear would certainly be nice.

Btw you might as well get the Dinan exhaust and x-pipe if you have not done so. I think that might be the only Dinan parts you are missing now. ![]() Btw x 2 I keep reading your review on the inlets/intake. Think I'm going to pull the trigger on them. Waiting to see if they do an end of the year sale first as I hear they are backordered. |

FotiosF90M5 Probably THE most helpful review on Bimmerpost. It's like you read my mind on what I think is "wrong" with the car. As much as I love my car, and the stance- the total lack of confidence I have when accelerating or braking hard in the F90 in comparison to previous cars is VERY much so an issue for me, and need it fixed!
Curious as to how both Dinan link kit & Ball joint kit pair with KW HAS. I did notice that you are running the Dinan kit. Can anyone comment on their experience with the Dinan pieces and KW's? Pretty sure i'm going to reach for my "YOLO" card again and just order the damn pieces. I wanted to wait and include the Eisenmann Lower downpipe as well. I looked at the Dinan X - Pipe as well, but with MPE, I don't think I can have this installed without butchering what I have ? MPE is a full system compared to the Dinan Axle back- or am I mislead?

One thing I have to add is now that I've done the front I feel like I need to do the link set for the rear which also comes with a front link as well. It's expensive but now that the front is so precise and solid it makes me feel like the control is a bit uneven front to rear, not in a bad way but in a way you know it would make a very nice improvement and just need to do it. Like the rear is now missing that ultra direct feel from the seat and steering wheel that the front now has. The complete suspension set and a really good HAS kit will yield an extremely agile and telepathic M5 comp that I think will out perform even the great M5 CS. Even as mine sits right now it's already there and with the last upgrade it will be simply sublime. Yeah you'd have to cut the M performance for the Dinan x-pipe. Dinans complete exhaust would be the valved muffler combined with the x-pipe. Their systems sound really good in my experience. Get the Monoballs and links!!!

I'm glad you did so more people know how good it is, that's why I do these reviews. Obviously from this review you know I highly recommend doing the Monoball Kit and the front and rear link/bushings set. If you could only do one my recommendation would be the front Monoball setup since it gives excellent steering feel on top of more control.

Do you think the front monoballs help with tramlining? My car has been doing that since day one because we have some pretty groved roads around here due to heavy truck traffic. |

So that was going to be my next question... as soon as I typed out my reply to your post last night, I pulled the trigger. In my final act, I have: Dinan F90 M5 Tension Strut Ball Joint Kit Dinan F90 M5 Rear Suspension Link Kit Eisenmann Lower Downpipe Purchased and awaiting shipment! I then thought, "Wait: do I need TWO units of the ball joint kit? Or does the suspension link kit solve the dancing/unbalanced issue? It is SO true, the F90 M5 Comp is fantastic, but it feels like a bodybuilder running at full speed and could get pushed over and fall face first by a little girl. My point with the terribly example there is that as great as it is- the suspension issue serious. Thank you for the help brother!

My car has been under the knife for the past two days, getting Dinan/Carbahn bits installed. I went with the Cold air intake, HAS kit, Rear toe links, front monoballs.
The turbo inlets are on back order, which is a bummer. But that gives me time to get used to these mods as I consider going down the exhaust/xpipe/tune rabbit hole. I'm picking her up in the morning and hope I feel exactly the same as you gents. I'm excited!! |

So far I did KW HAS, M5CS bonnet, HJS downpipes, MPE titanium exhaust, BBS RID, and of course all the necessary CF stuff, various brands like Sterckenn, Autotechnik, RW, and OEM. Dinan is not established here, so no references for me nearby. I've been struggling if I should pull the trigger on the Dinan mono balls and rear links. After reading this thread I think I'm gonna do it. We even have the same gray! Regarding the intake, I've changed the filter, as a lot of people said that it's the most cost-effective thing compared to the whole intake system. The local shop that does all the mods for me basically said a similar thing, that the whole CF intake system is just more nice looking and makes sounds that some people like. Is replacing the turbo inlets alone more cost-effective/substantial to the outcome? I've been watching videos and articles about the M5CS, since all the people are speaking super highly of it, I'm thinking there must be a bunch of people like me trying to mod "toward" the M5CS, obviously with some level of compromise and alternatives. So I've been thinking about anti-roll bars, front negative camber, different engine mounts/torque, other than the stuff I've done already including the mono balls and links I'm buying. I emailed Dinan last month and they said they were not sure about developing anti-roll bars for my generation. I saw somebody in this thread mentioned them, but I suppose he was referring to the non-LCI? The BMW dealer told me that my car requires a set of arms in order to adjust the camber. Anyway, just hope to get some insights as not many people here are this serious like you guys, and I'm quite alone, could only see what's on the internet that is public. Thanks! |
