Clear Bra: Certified 3M at BMW Dealership?

I'm thinking of moving west and will drive from Massachusetts to California. I don't want to get to SoCal and find dozens of rock chips in the paint.... so I'm thinking of getting a clear bra for my 09 M3 Sedan (Jerez Black).

Questions:

1. What brand do you recommend....3M?
2. Do you recommend aftermarket or dealer install? Since I'm moving, I'm thinking of letting the dealer do it.
3. Are BWM Dealers "Certified 3M" installers? This is purely warranty related.
4. Cost? I've seen $500 and above on other sites. Not sure I trust myself to do the install.

Or should I just pay $$$ to get the front bumper and hood resprayed when I get to Cal?

Thanks

I would recommend paint protection over paint repair, especially with the J-schwartz!

Sorry to be, but you can you post some pics here http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=124830

I think you should def. get Venture Shield Clear Bra instead as it has life time warranty. The warranty cover yellowing, bubbling, peeling and such. Also, I would get at least partial hood, partial fender and bumper done. It would cost around 1000-1200 for the pre cut kit.

But if you want to go custom kit, which cover the whole hood, it will cost you around 200-300 more. I did that with my E92 M3 JB.

Repainting your whole front costs much more... and also, nothing beat OEM paint... it is better to get clear bra for such a long trip.

Yeah, I think I'll go with the clear bra over respray. Is Venture Shield offered at BMW?

I think you should go with 3M and have it custom installed so it goes over and under all edges. I seem people with clearbras from dealerships that dont look right and end up getting a chip in the edge that was not covered completly.

Also, you should try not to go through dealership too. Cut the costs and go directly to the person who installs it. Dealers will charge you extra to make a little dough on their side.

Don't go to dealership to install clear bra. Many dealers pick installers based on how cheap they are...

I had a mix of 3M and Venture installed on my car, including partial hood and fender, and full bumper, headlights, and mirror. Costed me $800. Don't mess with OE paint!

Im thinking well ahead of myself here but was thinking bout getting the 3m clear bra, the thing is though, is this stuff relatively obvious because i was thinking it may look tacky on my (future) AW e92.

If it is pretty stealthy i want to get this done, preferably not through my dealer. How many of you guys recommend it?

To me.....clear means transparent.....which means it is not seen. I'd love to see pics of a few cars with a clear bra installed.

I agree. I never thought to put a bra on the whole car. What did you pay for that

I don't remember the exact number, but if I were to guess, it should be about $6k. My friend had his bumper repainted and that was from a very reputable shop here in Culver City and that costed him about $1500 for that part alone. Didn't hesitate considering the effect in resale for my gal.
