Sport Mode On Autos

Might sound a bit stupid but what does the sport mode actually do. I know the car will rev higher. Cus i have reved it to 4.5 in sport mode.

But what else does it do?

It changes up later in the rev-range and holds onto lower gears for longer after changing down.

MO 1: The good news for you, is that you`re in a 330d, which benefits greatly from a re-map.

Okay, but what`s that got to do with the DS mode ? Well, I`ll tell you.............

I was the same as you until a few days ago, wondering what the hell sport-mode was for, as it seemed to serve no major purpose. That was until I had the re-map done.

DS mode is now sooooooo much more responsive, and puts the engine revs right in the sweet spot, so the engine changes gear at just the optimum moment.

Get a re-map done mate; you know it makes sense !

I generally find that DS mode revs a bit too far, or rather changes up a bit too late for my liking, almost as though it was designed for a petrol engine and not a diesel. My car is 2 years old now, so they might have improved the maps on later cars.

I normally drive in D mode, and just slide over to DS mode when I want to pull away very quickly, or am anticipating overtaking (to avoid the annoying auto box change-down delay). I usually go back to D mode shortly afterwards.

Does DS mode not also mean the car pulls away in first gear instead of second in D.

I love DS mode as thats when I can use the paddles.

For all town and cruise driving use D. If you have paddles, and use them in D it reverts back to D when you dont change gear for a few seconds. In DS, once you use a paddle, it stays in manual mode until you change back to D.

i noticed that in a '08 328 loaner I had a lil while ago, I really liked that. I also liked how BMW put aluminum on the wheel exactly where all the rubbery coating is worn off on my 06...
