Resonator delete vs midpipe

New to forum so take it easy on me. And before you comment I used the search function and cant find the answer to my question, maybe I missed it. Just picked up a CPO 2019 M5(first BMW) a few weeks ago and like many on here would like more noise from the exhaust. I was looking at the MPE, but my new mechanic is telling me I can achieve similar results by just replacing the midpipes and save the $7k. AWE and Akrapovic both sell midpipes for around $900. Dinan sells resonator delete kit for $500. Anyone have experience doing either of these that could chime in? I noticed several old classified ads of people selling their AWE midpipes which leads me to believe results weren't great. Car is under warranty for 3 more years so not interested in doing any kind of a tune to void the warranty. My understating is that either of these can be installed without a tune as they are simply for added noise and wont lower performance without tuning. And obviously not looking for any CEL issues but was told neither would do it. Sounds like drone is an issue for some but the car is so damn quiet inside I can't see that being an issue for me. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Any downpipe manufacture is selling mid pipes also. Keller, Evolution Racing sp?, etc etc.

Google f90 m5 mid or down pipes.

A resonator delete won't sound the same as a MPE.
If I were you, I'd take a look at aftermarket exhausts like Remus, Fi Exhaust… they have axle back/catback options which is nice because I'm assuming you don't want to get catless downpipes.

Thanks for the comments. Looks like the Dinan delete is backordered until mid to late November. Akrapovic states an ECU tune is required to ensure no CEL, but others don't state that. Assuming that is just their generic disclaimer.

you absolutely will NOT get a CEL from anything to do with mid pipes or the cans or 2nd cats.

Mess primary cats and yes you will and need coding.

also a mid pipe is a resonator delete in itself. adding an x pipe vs straight pipe will change some things and threads covering this (literally one discussing DINAN x-pipe like 10 threads below this one). Several videos on youtube as well and several posts by me in that dinan thread discussing a simple resonator delete as i wait for my dinan x pipe to show up.

Yep. I’ve read that thread man. But they are talking about getting the rear silencer removed between the mufflers, which I’m not. Since I’m a nuub, if I replace mid pipes with the akrapovic system, will I lose valve control with button on center console?

So reading both your first post and this one, it sounds like you’re asking about just doing the resonator delete and leaving the stock axle-back section (mufflers) in place. If that’s the case then you will still have the flaps, they’re in the rear section just ahead of the tail pipes. If you look up the tailpipe (can’t recall if it’s the inboard or outboard pipes) you’ll see the flaps.

If you’re talking about swapping out everything from the mid pipes back then you need to select a system that has integrated flaps which the acrapovic does.

No. That's just one of the things WE were talking about. The whole thread is called Dinan xpipe and it is a mid pipe that replace just the resonator. Not the "balance" tube that goes between the mufflers which I have yet to hear any proof it does anything. It's just a hollow tube. GTATX talks about doing both.

And no a simple mid pipe does not touch the valves. They are on the tips. Basically they just allow gas to exit 4 pipes vice 2.

Thanks for the replies. Will probably try the Dinan resonator delete once it’s back in stock. Just ordering some carbon fiber parts for now while I wait.
