Light weight parts, let’s discuss.

I’m looking to drop as much weight as possible from this 21 comp.

Firstly, the stock wheels. I’ll be ordering some forged rims. Still trying to figure out which exactly. But should be good for 50lbs less there.

What else can be switched out with something lighter?? I’m looking for guys who’ve weighed stuff, if you are out there!

I lost 10 lbs by eating better. My 0-60 times improved.

How much do the factory cats weigh? Wondering what DPs will save for weight?

I can't tell you how much the factory cats weigh, but I can tell you that catless downpipes weigh less than half of what the stock ones weigh, probably even more than half

You can also shed weight on the exhaust, but it probably won't be much. Or a carbon fiber hood if you want to go all out. Also, CCB's are lighter than steel brakes.

Apart from what has been said above, there's not much you can do, at least not without sacrificing comfort/daily driving ablity

It would be nice to find a wrecked M5 and get the CCB off it... Ill have to keep an eye out for them.

Where sells a carbon fiber hood?

Anyone know how much the rear seats weigh?

Alot of this will depend on your overall goals. Are you a "Dragy Racer" looking for that last .01sec? Or just looking to shed some overall fatness from the car?

If you dont have CCBs, these make a staggering difference. For the lightest wheels made, HRE R101 LW or Litespeed Magnesium in 20s. Michelin PS Cup 2s will shed another few Lbs. Exhaust run full titanium from DP exit to tips. Get rid of factory cats. Get M5 CS style seats for front and rear.

No Bowers and Wilkens
No Drivers Assistance Pro
Carbon Roof
Carbon Ceramics
HRE R101 20"
Akrapovic Evolution exhaust

are the big ones...

Should be able to get the full curb weight under 4200 with all of the above.

Best to start with the CS and put R101's and Akra on it which would shave about 60lbs and put you dangerously close to 4000lbs

Side note: I wish options of this generation were more a la carte, stuff like soft close doors, motorized trunk, electric window shades. In europe you could pick and choose these on the F10 M5 and F13 M6 years ago.

Is your goal to improve the car for performance on a racetrack?

Why not buy a dedicated race car instead of stripping a car like an M5 to save a few pounds and for what? You can get a cheap shell and put a 1000 hp engine in it with no electronic steering, a manual gearbox and nothing inside but a driver's seat and a cage. You will have all the road and steering feel you can handle.

I understand people do what they want with their cars.

I can’t pick up my groceries in a race car while getting my back massaged and talking on Bluetooth.

These cars do everything really good, they just need a little less weight, closer to 4000lbs and they’re perfect!

I drag race it, not race track... 100lbs is a lot of extra weight to try drag down the track...

On a more appropriate note, downpipes arrived today. I will weigh them and weigh the old cats coming off to let guys know the difference.

Honestly? Because this car is easier to make faster since it has a hell of a killer motor/trans versus a lot of other cars out there this I know. Stripping one down and running stage 2 on ethanol will kill a shit ton of cars that are modified right now.

For shits I pulled the rear seats out similar what we i've done on my rs3. These stock seats are heavy. Took about 1/2 to take out and 15 to put back in, they are now back in was cool while it lasted. Amazing how quiet the exhaust is, you can see all the sound deadening material they add. A little learning curve to remove but totally doable prior going to the track. Light weight wheels coming next.

This picture gives me so much anxiety I can only imagine what's under my seat with my 3 hoodlum ass young kids. I may have 10 lbs of weight savings in crumbs.

Nice man, how heavy was that rear seat? Did you weigh it?

My DPs are being coated right now and I will weigh them. They are heavier than I thought, must be pretty thick stainless steel.

Didn't weight them but I'm guessing 30-40 lb.

Got the dps back from ceramic, I weighed them and the old cats. 11lbs less weight with catless. Not huge but it all adds up.
