800 WHP E92 N54 Single Turbo review

Hi Guys,

I just made a build-breakdown video of a pretty awesome 800 whp 335i with a Doc Race single turbo kit. Some of you on this forum may find it interesting and informative. Please check it out?

I have been racing them since install and they are doing great. They are a nice balance between fast spool and a little extra power.

How much is "a little extra power"?

I really wonder what my car puts down. I have pretty much the same setup as the car in the video but a 6466 instead of the 6266. Seems a little more peaky in my car compared to the video.

Sounds about right, any dyno numbers?

I know recently 1Spool in instagram posted his run against a 720s (he's upgraded twin). Jumped out maybe a car or two ahead at first and then the 720s just kept gaining and gaining lol

Shouldn't a 800whp N54, gain and beat a 720s? 🤔

I mean 720s will probably jump ahead for a while but 800whp should catch up and beat it.

I forgot the 720s was downpipe + tune but honestly, not sure. I'd imagine it would catch up on the top end, it's much more aerodynamic and i'd assume better gearing :

720s is much more aerodynamic, 10% lighter, and let's be honest probably not stock either. As much as I love my car I'm okay with being slower than a $350k supercar thats 8 years newer. (FWIW, wasn't noticeably slower than them but we didn't do a side-by-side run)

I think the aero is the real kicker. On my old 335is with stock turbos I could keep up with a cayenne turbo that has a 3.9s 0-60 and well over 100hp more than I did.

I get the 720s advantages, yeah aero and power to weight is better I would think

0.30 drag coefficient for a E90 335i

720s has higher cd somewhere around 0.40

Just Googled it, says Prius has 0.25 cd!!!

What the heck, does this mean the Prius more slipperier than both of them?

Any idea what the 100-200k times for a 800whp N54?

Found 100-200k listed at 4.7 for 720s on fastestlaps.com

Definitely not that low. I'd expect high 5s to low 6s. Any weight reduction will make a big difference too. Terry @ BMS ran a 5.X at ~550whp in a sub-3k lb 135.

If I recall correctly, 6.39 secs (100-200k) was zero260 E92 335i with 17t Chinese turbos, and they dynoed the car with over 600+whp

At worst a 800whp N54 should be around 5 secs I would think, 🤔

Some real data with a draggy or similar device would be interesting.

If I could post a N54T3CH link I would, seems in the thread I found, lowest was a 5.5s from MSick174.

The issue with this is going to be method too. Some roll from 45 and take the 60-130mph and some just stop at 60 and then go for it. Twins vs Single will make quite the difference if the used method is stabilizing around 60 and going for it too.

The other issue, there are not all that many 800whp N54s. Most are gonna go boom by that point.

So it would appear the current N54 record, regardless of power is 4.6, and i'm guessing that's a fully built motor making over 800whp, or a very very light car. Closest to that 4.6 is a 5.5 by the same guy, and a 5.6 from Tony Vargas.

http://www.dragtimes.com/BMW--335i-6...MPH-times.html

These are times from VBox and Dragy

So it would appear the absolute fastest N54 is just enough for a 720s lol
