M8 Sales Hold

My wife just got an X6 M50i and while at the dealership the idea of an M8 Gran Coupe sounded nice.

After a little contemplation I decided to pull the trigger. They of course sold the one they had but were going to dealer trade one of their convertibles for a GC.

Now (after selling one of my daily's) I am being told that all 2022 M8s on the ground are on a sales hold. They can't even move the cars.

I know there is a giant chip shortage (I machine parts for the SC industry) but just curious what anyone else knows about this. All they can tell me is they have no idea when they will be able to sell and are waiting on components. Any cars at DC's can't leave the DC until some work is performed on them.

My dealer said there was a hold for some minor recalls on already built vehicles... does not impact new builds.

First I'm hearing of this for anything recent, but the idea of it is certainly nothing new. It typically doesn't last long as they obviously have the incentive to fix it quickly, but with part shortages, it might end up being a different story this time.

There was a stop sale for mine due to the transmission wiring harness recall. They just needed to inspect for any wear due to rubbing, replace if it existed (which it didn't since it was new), and move the harness over.

The 2 M8s we currently have in stock are not on stop sale, nor was the customer ordered M8 GC that arrived about a week ago.

So cars coming were built 3-4 weeks ago I presume.

If the issues were discovered this week for example, and they had the parts available, the fix would like be put into production going forward while they deal with send parts to fix what's currently on hold...

My guess...

What was your production date?

We have 3 840i and an M8 currently in transit. One of them is stuck at Oxnard for a delivery stop for an audio module. This was a June production car. The other 3 were all July/August builds that are free and clear.

Salesman just told me that it is an audio related issue.
Sounds like he may have found one to trade for. We will see.

I have terrible patience for ordering cars. The only car I've ever stuck out and actually waited the whole time for was my GT4

Hopefully he did find one. I don’t believe there currently is an available fix for the RAM stop sale. So who knows how long it’ll be.

Sounds like there is an issue with the RAM audio unit that is part of both the H&K and B&W (upgraded RAM unit) sound systems.

Here's a link to a prior post with the schematic. https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=26560985

Figured it was pandemic related in some way. Let's hope it doesn't impact stateside delivery too bad.

It definitely was. Bought it specifically for autocross and it has been great.
