Anyone try double h pipe similar to AMG's

While there only seems to be 2 options people are running regards to exhaust, one being straight piped mid section and 2 being x pipe over the stock boxed resonator. It seems the x pipe makes the exhaust to smooth sounding from what some have shared. Wondering how our exhaust would sound with a h pipe or even two h pipes like Mercedes runs. I've had multiple 4.0l AMG's and imo they have a very nice exhaust tone and rumble compared to the 4.4's do. While I know there is more that just exhaust between them, I'm planning on doing something to the exhaust to give a little more sound but with out making it to raspy, wondering about trying a single h pipe or even double. Goal is to have more sound and possibly a muscle rumble sound which may even cancel out that loud burble / over run snap sound that I don't like. Nice to see AMG doesn't even add a resonator for their mid pipes. Like how the have the h pipe pretty close to the cats, the m5's resonator sits back further and farther apart unfortunately.

I'm not sure anyone has done anything similar, but I do like the sound of the AMGs so would be nice to hear how your experiments turn out. Cheers!

Right on, might in time try it. I've bounced back and forth over the years to Audi, bmw and Merc and on thing most can agree on,,,, not many want to change the stock exhaust on a Merc v8. They nailed the outside and interior sound very well.

I don't think an H pipe will give you the sound you're looking for.

The reason the S63 engine sounds different to the AMG engines is because of the exhaust manifold configuration. The S63 uses a cross-plane? configuration (i don't know the correct term). Basically, the exhaust gasses from both sides of the V are mixed to spool the turbos quicker, which produces the unique sound.

Take the N63 engine(like on a M850i), for example. It uses a "traditional" style exhaust manifold, which gives it that muscle car V8 growl.

I attached some photos of the manifolds to make it easier to understand my botched explanation: 😂

I think the sound difference originated from the engine crank configuration and the firing order.
You will never get the sound of a cross plane crank match the sound of a flat plane crank configuration.

Hear (no pun) both of you, though I'm not trying to achieve the same sound more so to possibly hear similar or indifferent then the only two mid pipe options people are gravitating towards. BTW did know the difference between the 4.0 and the 4.4 is flat plan vs cross plane thought they were the same.

I looked a bit on google and there are mixed reviews about the H pipe, some say it gives the car a more muscle car sound, some say it makes no difference compared to an x pipe..

Honestly, I would go ahead and get an H pipe to see how it sounds. You can always go back if you don't like it, it's just metal pipes lol. Videos are expected if you do

The N63 is still a 4.4L but yes same here. Didn't know the S63 was a FPC. Figured it would rev higher like the Porsche and Shelbys.

I'm coming out of a shelby gt350 so I noticed it sounded unique compared to the RS6 and E63s. Here's another explanation of the configuration. It'll be pretty cool to hear it with a h pipe.

This is the correct answer. No straight pipe, no h pipe, no y pipe, no J pipe will fix the sound. Due to how the sound gets produced at the source.

I would not waste your resources tbh
