mechanic/shop needed

I need someone good and reasonably priced to install my short shifter (unfortunately, you need to drop the exhaust).

Any recommendations?

hey guys,

unfortunately I am in the same boat, I need to find a good shop that knows what they are doing with BMWs to install my UUC EVO3 shifter on my E92 M3.

My dealership wants over $400 in labor to do it since they are saying it will take about 4 hours to do! There is no way in heck I am paying that much to have this installed.

I am in Richmond and I am having trouble finding good shops near me, I am willling to travel some to get this done.
Any help would be apprectiated.

Actually it looks like German Auto will be the closest to me, I am going to contact them and see. Hopefully they are much much more reasonable than my dealership.

Did the OP ever had his shifter installed?

SSK is pretty straight fwd for any e46. The same principles applies on the e92. However since no one has posted its own DIY on it, the clearance access to the shifter from underneath is everyones guest.

heres the shift rod itself from underneath the car, the second photo is the actual tranny gear selector rod connecting it to the transmission itself.
http://www.m3post.com/forums/showpos...04&postcount=6

the teflon ball ends on the first photo connects to the tranny selector rod (second photo). Just imagine accessing it and replacing the clip with the whole tranny installed. Its tight, hot (exhaust pipes) and working with hands just feeling where the clip should go is frustrating sometimes.

But its doable, but not a new car DIY project for me because of warranty and legal liability issues. The clubs DIY if you noticed are mostly for olders cars since they are out of warranty or new cars subjected to simple oil changes.

Also your warranty gets voided if you change it to a SSK. The e46 M3 MT shifter has alot of slappiness to it, I know since I used to own one. One the otherhand the e92 MT shifter is much smoothier and engaging than the predecessor. I doubt that you can finish the job in the very limited time DIY time slot, bcoz you need to cool down the exhaust before you can put your hands over it and removing the entire pipes is just as time consuming.

As much as I like to help, Im already on forum semi-retirement and can only provide online guidance, Leave it stock, Its Perfect

or call the listed no.

Which part of DC are you in? I know a shop in rockville MD that is very reasonable. I found them on Tirerack highly recommended and have done all of my wheel and tire swaps with them. They do other things also, I have done coilovers and exhaust installs with them. http://www.pro-imports.com/

thanks for recommendation, unfortunately I am in Richmond so that would be a little further than I would like to go.

I didn't get the e92 exhaust yet waiting for the spring. I had the work done on my Is300 when I had it last year. I am thinking about the borla or Active Autowerke exhaust, I like that both are bold on and no cutting or welding is involved.
