Home car polisher
I have yet to get round to getting the m340i paint treated and coated yet and now Mrs 225 has a new car as well.
I was thinking instead of paying alot of money to get both done I was thinking of doing it myself. Obviously it will be basic and not as good as a full detail but is it that hard? I assume wash, dry, clay bar, polish with a machine something like https://www.slimsdetailing.co.uk/col...-das-6-pad-kit then treat with crystal serum v2 Appreciate that's a fair few hours work but is it that hard and do people think it would be worth it?! |

Not hard when you know what to do / use. You need to understand the different pads and what they do together with the particular grade of polish you use with them and that will depend on the degree of swirls etc.
I've done all my own cars over the last 15 years together with a few friends cars, as a hobby not business and do enjoy the satisfaction of perfection in the paint. Downside is I can spend 2 - 3 days polishing etc !! Certainly worth doing but don't go down the rotary route as even some professionals can't seem to use one properly. Dual action all the way. It's easy enough if you have the time, I do enjoy a good session on the car.
Pretty do as you say but I advise a going over with some fallout remover before going in with the clay. Go with something like a chemical guys green hex pad and a 1 step polish (though I can recommend detailing kingdom 1:1and finale two step) and you can't go far wrong. Add a protection of your desire on top. Did my f80 last summer, while I didn't get all of the mark outs, I got most of them and the finish was fantastic, really deep glossy finish.

It's not hard but you do need to know what you're doing a bit to get the best results and not end up making things worse.
I started around 5 years ago got a DAS Pro DA with some Menzerna polishes and yellow/white/grey pads, you have to prep the car and strip back whatever is on there first, then work in small areas making sure you work the compound enough but not too much, work in light or lighting so that you can actually see what you're doing to the surface. Chose the right pad and polish (best to start light and go heavier if needed) and don't whatever you do make the mistake of using a pad with dried on polish on it the next day! I did and swirled the entire car This guy's channel is full of a wealth of info https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYs...TkoxI5D17s1u-w

I bought this kit and got some really good results. There are so many compounds, polish, pads etc it got very confusing but hex logic and meguairs 105/205 kept being mentioned.

While I'm adept at wash dry quick detail using good products, mainly gtechniq I don't have a clue about using a machine. Ideally I'd like a basic kit with step by step instructions on what pads to use etc.
They are both new cars so paint is ok so don't need anything major. |

I can recommend the DAS-6 V2 dual polisher with Sonax pads and polish as a budget approach. I've never polished a whole car end to end but I've done large sections like the bonnet and doors and have been amazed at the results, tbh. Watch a few videos before you start and take your time, marking out small areas with tape. Experiment first on one or two panels on an old runaround if you got access to one. Best of luck.

I'm quite a beginner with a da polisher and have only tried a handful of compounds and pads over a couple of years/ lease cars!
Best results I have got have been with a Dodo Juice Orange Fin Cutting Pad and FARECLA G3 Premium Abrasive Compound. We get a fair few marks from bushes rubbing the car on narrow country lanes when taking the dogs out. Last year I tried a 3m cutting compound/ polish and was still charged as the marks were still very visible.. this year I know there will be no charges! Brilliant finish imo. |

Defo do it and save on ceramic and DIY twice a year giving the car a good going over back to like new. DA polisher and good compounds worth their weight in gold.
+1 for the DAS V6 here, been fantastic for me. Personally I don't bother with all the taping BS and just don't venture close to glass etc.
