Testing

I wanted to test my 2021 M5 Competition before I started modifying it. I was impressed for a stock car and completely full tank of fuel. Top end was sluggish compared to my stage 2 E63 but overall strong results. Hope to hit 10.3-10.4 this year and break into the 9’s next year. That is assuming someone cracks the 2021 ECUs besides Mission.

For comparison my best time on my 2018 E63 was 10.40 at 133. Stock turbos, downpipes, DME tune, methanol, CPC.

Nice run, is it on prepped surface or on the street? I cant put the power down on the streets, too much wheel-spin.

Street. I had zero wheel spin. I was impressed with the launch mode. My E63 always spun

I think the LCI has improved Launch, as it got the M8 Gearbox and software, after very inconsistent launch, on the pre LCIs.

Nice run. Looks like a great launch going under 1.7 seconds for the 60' on a surface with no prep. Also, excellent et particularly when you were at almost 1,000' altitude.

The trap speed does look slightly low for an et under 10.8. At that trap, I would have expected closer to 130 mph.

What gas were you using.

not sure why people keep saying pre-lci has launch issues. I've had none. Most likely user error..

When I looked at my dragy and saw the 10.77 I was guessing 128 so I was spot on. On my E63 to get 130 I would be in the 10.5/10.6 range.

I used shell vpower 93 but literally filled up one day before so tank was absolutely full. I usually like to make runs between 1/4-1/2 tank. I have 102 close to me along with E85 so I will do a lot of testing with fuel mixtures to see what works best. I will update the group. I’m documenting everything in a spreadsheet so no guessing for me.

Yes, I have CCBs and 20” HRE P101 with 285/295 so that might have helped a little.

To me it seems like each year M5 launches better and better. But that is just my speculation.

I've taken the M5 out in 90 degree florida heat, ran 11.1 multiple times back to back in a non comp car. I have yet to see any issue with the LC.

A little???

You have removed between 90 and 120 pounds of unsprung, rotating mass versus the average M5 (assuming steel brakes and depending on whether you measure against the stock boat-anchor cast wheels or the lighter buts still porky forged wheels).

That is huge and I deeply envy your HREs, but could not justify that expense for myself ;-).

I’ve seen multiple tests, where the pre LCI has been inconsistent in its launches. The LCI seems to have addressed this. To add, I’ve not had problems with launch on pre LCI, just conveying what others have found and reported.

Nice, the lighter brakes and wheels do help with the short times. Do you have sunroof or carbon fiber? It too makes a dif in the overall package. I have a 2018 with no sunroof and CCBs and it gives me a lil edge in the numbers.

Carbon roof. I tried to build a lightweight M5 without compromising anything I wanted. Executive, full leather, and CCB

I will be selling my 20” HRE P101 next year to get some 21” R101 LW and a cheap set of 20” to mount some sticky tires.

I don’t think I ever owned any vehicle with the stock wheels so I definitely have an addiction

Map 2 (Stock downpipes, Shell 93). Getting my downpipes put on next week but I hope I can test Map 3 running 102 before the install to set a baseline. I’m guessing I run 10.32 at 135 but we will see. I hope the downpipes help my times and won’t hurt them but I will test the same maps, fuel, road, and hopefully similar conditions and report the results. These cars seem to be finicky when running catless but hopefully Terry can square me away.

The 0-60 on this run was actually 2.69 but the slope made it invalid. The 2.70 was the 0-60 on Map 1 and I ran a 10.53.

Thanks! I appreciate it. I’m aiming to get a 10.30 so I’m the fastest 2021 M5 in the 1/4 per dragy. I just put in 10 gallons of 102 and hope to make a run tonight or tomorrow night. So damn hot and humid though.
