Surprise DME tune

So today I had the "pleasure" of dropping my 2019 M5C off at the dealership to replace the windshield. The SA asked about getting the latest fuel vent recall done, but I was hesitant from some of the posts on here regarding the inconsistent potential loss of pops and bangs. SA said he would research himself and get back to me for final confirmation. So he calls back and says that there is one other issue with the recall as it would remove my DME tune when they flash the update to the ECU. I said what?!? So apparently the previous owner of my car, who was BMW NA corporate, had the car tuned. SA advised not to get the recall done.

Anyone else ever experience something like this? The question is, how can I figure out what stage the tune is? I called DME and they had no record based on my VIN, but it could be possible that it was done by someone else or they could search again by customer name (a real person's name).

Your service advisor mentioning DME means "digital motor electronics" which is the name for the engine computer. DME.
Different from the software tuning company named DME Tuning.
Most likely you will never find out who tuned your ecu without talking to the previous owner

You are lucky to have a cool service advisor advising not to flash the ECU, most bmw clients this is the part where they flag the VIN for ecu software tampering.
