Did you notice?

The M850i makes 523 HP, the M8C 617. These are both prime numbers. Was this by design? I’d like to think so.

By the time you get to 617, there's a roughly 1:5 chance of landing on a prime... 523 yields slightly better odds so I guess it could be purely coincidental.

That aside: assume you're right and they did indeed do it deliberately... why? Possibly because they're a huge bunch of geeks.

Even more cool:

I heard on the internet that the BHP of every BMW made since 1997 (a prime number, of course) can be expressed as the product of 2 or more primes!

I think they use the PS unit for power which would produce a more "rounded" figure of 625.

Cute cipher, 47 101 101 23 11 //08.

53 61 23 41 11 numbers are fascinating indeed but I'm not sure Publius' and my hope that BMW incorporated them in power output figures will pan out... one can only hope.

Hey, I'm willing to bet $617 that my claim is correct.

Yup, you're right; my bad—it must be true if Wikipedia says so.

Hmmn, I’m not so sure. While 523 HP rounds to a nice even 530 PS and vice versa, 617HP rounds to 626PS and 625PS rounds to 616HP. Not really any explanation there for the M8s.

Therefore I’ll go with the prime number speculation!
