Tyre Reviews: M5C in AWD versus RWD performance

Very educational and fun video to watch. It demonstrates how a clever RWD complements a high performance car.

Also, one of the few occasions you can see the Montegi Red shining!

I agree. People that have been complaining about AWD have not driven the car properly.

Very surprised by the dry results. Found that I had lots of understeer in 4 wheel drive sport at VIR full course. Still need to test it with 2 wheel drive though.

Not entirely... The difference in wet acceleration is no less than mind blowing! I would have anticipated about 20% delta, but not the demonstrated +50%!!

On the other hand, the delta on the wet course is limited, but I presume that the driver is experienced and could afford to take some risks on this closed circuit. In real live, you'd probably be less vigilant to explore the grip limits of the 4400lbs beast to avoid the risk you drive it into a tree or another scenery artefact.

The difference between acceleration times in the wet are outstanding. This M5 surely is a monster at everything it does well. Which is a lot.

If people know how to really drive a car properly, they wouldn't want AWD!

What did I miss watching this video and listening to the conclusions? It clearly demonstrates that a beast of this great ability finds many advantages in integrating a clever AWD.

The guy has made quite a few informative tyre review videos...I especially liked the one comparing Michelin PSS against Michelin PS4S in an E92 M3.
I like his style...he makes well balanced informed commentary .

Yes, and not like many other "stars" he's mainly driven by objective criteria. Also, I appreciate he doesn't pretend to be an ultimate flawless pilot that can judge any car just by looking at it.

In this video, it's clear he is baffled by the impressive M5C and I remember I felt exactly like that when I drove it a few years back through Bavaria. It recalibrated all I ever knew and thought was physically possible in a car this size and with this grace. It's just a massive impressive beast and this AWD helps a lot to bring it near to perfection.

The last M car I had prior to my M5C was a E92 M3 and the reason for this was it’s lack of AWD. Before that M3 and since it I had been driving mostly Quattro for the very reasons found in this video comparison.

Without a doubt RWD is more fun and dare I say scary at times too but the most effective mode is AWD especially so in the wet which is the kind of weather my country experiences. I was kind of surprised that even in the dry the M5 was also quicker in both AWD modes and the difference between both modes was minimal.

If the above video is consistent from review to review then is it any wonder why both Mercedes and now BMW have made the switch to AWD in their performance cars.
