Is flash tune better than jb4? shop says go flash tune.
Hi Guys,
I told my shop to get jb4 for my m5 but they said flashes are better. In which way are they better? Smoother? more power? Do tunes just give the pop and bangs or do i need something else? Id like flames lol... p.s. ordered full armytrix exhaust with primary and secondary catless downpipes. Please let me know also if any other mods are worth it. Thanks |

This topic has been discussed on here quite a bit.
I suggest you do a search for "tune versus piggy" and start there. This will provide a basic understanding of each and the risks that come with one versus the other. Warranty is also something that is of concern to many who tune as BMW has taken a much tougher stance recently than in years past. Search Stage 1 versus Stage 2 tune as well. Regarding exhaust pops and bangs that would be something a tune could modify to your liking where a piggy would not be able to. Do your research to ensure no surprises later .. this is a solid platform but has a history of failing when pushed to the limits. I suggest you spend some time on the F10 M5 Board as it is essentially the same platform in many respects.

The question does not quite make sense, to be honest as there are hundreds of different flash tunes.
You have to be more specific in which flash tune you are comparing to the Jb4 for a better answer on the pros and cons of each one.

Honestly, its all dealer dependent. I turned in my leased m3 with a tune on it, and they had no clue or didnt care, as they resold it with the tune still on it, I knew the next owner. Every dealer can tell if you have a tune (flash or piggyback) if they really want to. Guarantee if you have major warranty work to do, they will be searching for evidence of a tune and will find it.

One nice feature of the JB4 is you can set it to make boost lower when doing a launch to avoid stressing the drivetrain too. I've found flash maps really crank up the torque and you end up having a harder time launching cleanly.
