Eventuri carbon intake kit

Hello all,

I am intending to buy a used 2018 m5 (regular m5 not competition). I found a vehicle with 13,000 kms on the odometer. My only concern with the vehicle is that eventuri carbon intake kit was installed at the time that it was brand new.

I am usually a keep fully original guy so this kit is concerning me. Do you think that this eventuri carbon intake kit would reduce engine's lifetime or cause any problems to the engine/vehicle?

Additionally, I heard some rumors that the very first produced regular M5s (not competition) had some engine issues and the competition version was developed to address these problems? Is there any truth related to these rumors?

Thank you in advance for the answers

If they installed an Eventuri intake, you can’t rule out they didn’t run a tune on the car either. I’d be hesitant.

My service advisor said exactly the same thing. Therefore I will take it to Bmw service to plug into the computer and check whether tuning has been done. Do you think that I could find out earlier tuning history by plugging into the computer?

No. You can only tell if the car has been tuned. Not when or how much. Etc.

Thanks for all the answers. Lets assume that we have plugged in the car to the computer and there is no tuning. Do you think that the eventuri carbon intake kit has already caused some damage to the engine or reduced its lifetime? The car is very clean and in excellent condition besides this eventuri carbon intake kit. Would you go buy this car or rule it out because of the kit?

I have that intake. Sounds great. Does not cause any damage at all to my knowledge. I would buy the car and be thankful it already sounds better

It's just an intake with air filters. Would be the same if someone put a k&n filter on it. Not a big deal. Obviously make sure no other parts or trims or damaged or missing. Any competent tech can install it without damaging other things.

...air intakes don't damage or cause any added stress to the engine. most of the time they don't actually do anything except increase intake sound. And just because someone added an intake doesn't mean its tuned by any means. It's just as likely someone had a tune without an intake as with. Don't let it scare you. You should be happy as its an improvement over the OEM application.

And no, the M5C was not built to fix any issues with the base model. It's the same engine just tuned to pump out a whopping +17hp and give you a harsh suspension. IMO the only real advantage to the pre-LCI M5C is the blacked out pieces and maybe the exhaust although i can't really tell the difference.
