i4 Announced...

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/n...el-sale-autumn

It doesn't appear to have the hatchback of the old Gran Coupe, looking at the lines of the boot lid. If this is the case, it means the new 4GC won't be either, as they're apparently sharing the same platform and body.

I hope I'm wrong, the hatchback is wonderfully practical, easily my favourite BMW because of it.

It meant they could compete with the A5 and Merc Shooting Breaks, but no longer it seems.

BMW missing the bloody point again.

Despite the elephant in the room I kinda like it.
Looks very long and high but best see it in the metal.

I think it somehow suits the grille because it looks taller in those images.

I still don't like the grille, and will never forgive them for even considering it.

The official launch page talks about "The first purely electric Gran Coupé"

Looks like they have moved it a lot closer to the old 3GT in outline and practicality. I like it, would definitely have traded my 4GC for one if I still had it and needed that type of car.

What's up the ugly rims? Is that just a design element to show people it's a futuristic EV or does it have purpose?

I agree, definitely looks like a meld between GC and GT.

Still prefer the old style GC. Squat and sleek.

Expect to see similar styles across BMW, I quite like them as they look very easy to clean!!

See iX3 and the turd that is iNext for other examples.

Looks like Tesla could have a better quality competitor here. What I so far have not found in any of the launch stuff so far is what rate it can accept charge at. Hence the time to go from 20 % to 80% at a fast charger and if 350 realistic miles full range, the time it would take to 210 miles of range on board when travelling long distance away from home.

Looks as though it also well beats Polestar 2 its nearest competitor in practicality

It looks ok. I find it quite inoffensive, just rather bland to be honest. I wonder if the large grilles is to distract from the fact they've run out of design ideas elsewhere?

It doesn't have much "want" factor to me though. I know it's maybe not a competitor for it, but I look at the RS E-tron, and think "very nice, wouldn't mind that at all".

Interesting comments Terry, as I clicked on the link and then saw the write up about the GLB 35 in the other road tests at the side. So yes, decent effort but clearly didnt enthuse me...

I also wouldnt mind and RS etron GT but when my spec ended at over £125k I decided probably not going to happen!

Would love to see some figures on how much this increases range over conventional rims. I would assume it's negligible

The rims indeed appear to visually lackluster and quite possibly paying homage to the rotating circular dish inside every microwave (which happens to be electric - so it's unlikely to be an accident). This is an inadvertent gift to HRE and other aftermarket wheel manufacturers.

It would be unwise for BMW to redirect high margin wheel / accessories revenues to someone else. At least - please provide an OEM option to acquire more visually striking wheels.

Yes, very 3GT looking, will be interesting to see the specs. I like it and it would probably be a potential next car BUT I just can't move past the grilles.

It seems many buyers of the new gen bmws have convinced themselves that the grille will grow on them. I never bought a car that wasn't love at first sight and hope I won't have to in the future

The wheel gap seems pretty big to me, I wonder if that's how the production one will look. Also the wheel fitment in the 3/4 views looks really odd

Are these blue accents there to point out the lack of exhausts? Looks really odd

I'm over the grilles now.

To me, the bonnet shut line on the F3x was an appalling feature that I never thought I would get used to - but I did. It's still a clumsy and ugly piece of design though. Don't get me wrong, as an overall design the F36 was stunning imho, but that one feature was utter gash.

Having looked at the new M3 videos recently I am over the grilles, in fact I like them. Dont like the back of the M3 or the fake vent on the wing, and dont like any of the blue bits on the i4 or the vents on the wings....

Yikes, in that pic those rear lights say Audi to me. The photocopier saiesman from Ingolstadt must have made a sale in Munich.
