New AA Axleback valved exhaust- review

Thought I'd post my initial impressions.

https://store.activeautowerke.com/co...xhaust-section

The idea was to keep some sort of a valved exhaust on my M2C.

It was a fairly simple choice for me as I've had AA exhausts on 2 of my previous M cars and loved them...

The primary reason for a valved solution is I'm running the Wagner HFC's and they increase exhaust noise 20-25%.

So for the last 1+ years I've had the HFC's with the AA midpipe and stock rear section. It certainly sounded much better that OEM.

I've waited about 10 weeks to finally get this exhaust shipped to me.

I had it thrown on last Thur.

Fit and finish are fine, install was very straight forward.

GT roar start up is loud but amazing, it then settles down to a nice low burble.

With the valves closed its not much louder than the OEM muffler, but the tone is a deeper tone. Very "AA".

When I switch over to Sport, or Sport Plus the valves are always open...

Here's where the car literally goes from Dr. Jeckall to Mr. Hyde.

Its louder than the stock rear section but its way lower in its sound tonality.

There is some drone above 3.2K RPM's but I always drive the car on the Highway and around town with the valves closed.

I also have my rear seat removed which also amplifies the amount of sound and tonality as well.

Also the price of this and a single or EL midpipe is damn good compared to the various other options out there.

It sounds great IMHO but too loud to run all the time with the valves open at least for me.

With the OEM downpipes I bet this system would be near perfect!

I'll see I can get some sound clips up in the next few days..

Cheers,
HAZMAT

But I don’t have a tune on my car and don’t plan to put one on it for a long time. Also I really don’t want to spend the time and money on the whole catback system just yet. So what do you guys think? Would just an axle back AWE exhaust make my stock N20 sound much better?

Also curious if this exhaust bypasses that annoying valve. I don’t like that valve. I want my exhaust to be free flowing and louder than stock. I often drive in sport mode just to open that stupid valve up since it sounds way better even with the stock exhaust when that’s opened.
1- this is the M2 section
2- This is a review about the active autowerke, not AFE or AWE
3- you don't need a tune for a cat-back; only need the tune if you are replacing the downpipe
4- AWE axle-back will improve the sound of your car
5- Active Autowerke (since this thread is about them), also offers an axle-back for your car that sounds really good
