Burning clutch?
Why it would do it now tho is a mystery? Is it after it was driven for a while or almost straight away? What was the terain you were driving on, or were you on normal roads? |

Yep it's an auto, I'm thinkingbits the wheels rubbing, as the h&r's are really low. What I don't get is why all of a sudden. What could have happened on a truck to cause that (driving same style roads in same way)

Is the pannelling in the wheel arch hot when you can smell the burning? Are the tyres hot? Is it a rubber smell?

Just logged on to forum and saw this post........ WHAT!!!??? You've only had it 5 mins and you've set fire to it already!!!!??? I never ever smelled any kind of burning. And look, lets put this one to bed once and for all as its getting a little boring - the H&R's do indeed sit the car lower than most if not all the spring set ups out there. However, there is absolutely NO issue with this in terms of clearance, other than the very minor issue of very SLIGHT rubbing on total FULL LOCK of the steering wheel, where the tyres "just' touches the plastic (not metal) undertray in the arch. When you look at the tyres there is ZERO damage to the wall of the tyre which obviously suggests the rubbing is very minor and unless youre driving full lock every where (and you're not that bad a driver Paul!!!) then it happens rarely. Ive never had it bottom out on me and i CAN drive and did drive it hard when the need arose. So, i very much doubt the burning smell is this. Seems odd to me that it never arose before you left the UK and yet it appears the moment it leaves the transporter??? Further investigation is needed me thinks!! Keep us posted Paul and watch those greasy Spainish roads - 380 BHP and rear wheel drive doesnt bode well!!!!

Definately a rubbery smell, takes about 10-15 minutes to start judging by this morning. Cant figure out where its coming from (engine gets fooooooking hot though eh). Gonna take it to jocks garage today and see if they can isolate it, if its the springs i'll ask them to change, anything worse i'll take it to bmw.
Strange though, as i drove it on a 5 hour round trip few days before it left and it was fine, literally right after coming off the truck it started ... |

Bizarre?? As i said to you matey when you bought it from me - if i were keeping it i would have put the stock springs i gave you with the car back on - yes, the car looks awsome sat as it does on the H&R's but it is a tad too low. That said, i would be surprised if the smell has anything to do with this. How did they secure the car on the truck?? Was it strapped down etc?? Could the straps have dislodged or broken something out of sight, was pulled too far down etc?? One thing, if its a RUBBER smell then its something coming into contact with something it shouldnt which is an easy locate and fix. If on the other hand its an oily or other caustic burning smell it could be more serious?? Let us all know what it turns out to be. Take care buddy and let me know about the bloody exhaust you bugger!!!!

Going in tomorrow morning to check it out anyway, doesn't seem to effect anything though, just checked all the wheels and they all seem fine, no real marks anywhere, temps all fine etc. Oh and greasy spanish roads +380 does indeed equal significant rear end action (i should probably edit that last bit) |

Could be turbo is leaking oil and thats burning on the manifold or something causing the smell?
Have look under the bonnet.

It wont be the tyres.
A belt somewhere under the bonnet may be loose and rubbing.

Tyres are all equalish temperature so doubt its that. Should be easy to locate for a garage at least... gonna see if its something stupid like a bag got caught underneath and its slowly burning.

Well, just picking it up now and they cant find the cause of the smell. Taken the wheels off, nothing to do with them, looked around the whole thing and still can't find it... oh and €90 for the trouble. Looks like its a stealer jobbie
