I think this is my second topic now ... I am too old to be getting pulled over by LAPD . But never too old to unleash some noise ... I hear there are options to add some noise ? But still quiet in comfort mode ... I don't want anything too loud.. but to get a little louder than just "stock"

Help me add some noise to this baby

Have you considered an MPerformance or an aftermarket exhaust?

Your car sir is proof that a G20 BMW doesn’t need an M sport package to look drop dead gorgeous. Congrats 👏

Will res delete give a check engine light? I heard that's the cheapest solution ... it is a lease

catless DP is about 500 usd

you can always swap it back at the end and resell the part

gives a performance boost too

It won't give you a CEL. But it might drone. I've done lots of googling and people are divided. Some say a res delete makes the car drone. Others say a muffler delete does. I might do a muffler delete since it will make the exhaust louder (doesn't muffle the sound as much) whereas a res delete might make it drone (more resonance?). Ofcourse, I could be very wrong.

Is there a catless dp that will add sound &
Its plug and play? My mechanic can install anything but if there is cutting and welding he's out and at that point I rather just take it for a res delete at a local exhaust shop

Please link to a few options

A catless DP will add noise, but will throw a cell light and put you in limp mode. You'd need a tune to ignore the cell.

There are sports cat DPs that will add sound without the cell but they're more expensive.

The sound from a catless DP is lovely

What do you mean I need a tune? I did tune my car through mission tuning lol . Does that count? Also I hear catless will be too loud . I was thinking catted? Any recommendations?

Yes. You'd be better of going catted because of emission laws in CA and stuff. Plus, with a stage 1 tune, if you go catless, there's a good chance you'll get a CEL (even though it won't affect the way your car drives). A stage 2 tune will be able to code that out iirc.
Problem is catted DPs are more expensive. If you just want an increase in sound, get a muffler or res delete.

PS : Just noticed Don76 said the same thing I did. My bad.

I don't think a catless DP is too loud, but it's all a matter of taste and personal preference.

Get on YouTube for some research and decide for yourself.

As for the tune - I can't speak for your tuner, but most would be happy for you to return and have the required tweak to the map to delete the cel. A few beer tokens would be reasonable.

Most tuners here in the UK will flash back to std for a trip to dealer and reflash back afterwards for free.

Be warned too that if you do go for a Resonator Delete and/or muffler delete, BMW has 3 inch pipes running from the downpipe through the resonator and down through the rest of your exhaust, so a lot of exhaust shops can't work on it. At least that's the case in Washington State, most shops will only do up to a 2.5 inch pipe.

So I did resonator delete but it's not that noticeable other than some noticeable pops at 4000rpm .... any rec? Should I do a muffler delete or order a catted/catless down pipe? Thanks in advance !

I just put in catless downpipes and there is such a big difference. Significantly more pops and bangs when both upshifting and downshifting. I am kinda wishing that I have taken the resonator out so I can get more, but in your position you should definitely put in a downpipe.

Also, I had went and bought spark plug defoulers from autozone "Dorman 42009" comes in a back of two for like $6. You can attach these two together and place the o2 sensor in to not get a CEL.

Remove the resonator and code sports plus. Pops and burbles a lot, almost as much as a b58 when in sports plus. Exhaust sound is maybe a bit louder in a subtle way but not much, drone increase is very little and worth it. I believe sports plus opens the exhaust flap.

If you want a big difference your probably gonna have to spend big money on an after market exhaust, or at the very least remove the muffler, which might sound a little cheap, but not sure as I have never heard it.
