Changing from LCI dials back to OG to get km/h?

We are thinking of going to New Zealand for a couple of years. I want to bring my M2 over(still not fully decided on this, the decontamination/dismantling phase scares me more than the shipping part (we will use a container not RORO) )

I went to great lengths and cost to update the dials but alas they are fixed to mph. NZ law is the car must read out in km/h. I know there's the digital read out that can display km/h so not sure if this counts.

My only option therefore is to put my old dials in. Is this possible? Where are the miles stored on the central ECU?

I.e are the dials dumb/slave?

Thanks.

Pretty sure all modern cars store the mileage in the ECU.

My understanding is that the mileage is stored in multiple control modules within the car for tamper protection reasons. There is ways around it but you would need to find someone that is familiar with the process.

You need virginized cluster. Cluster will take mileage from other module (FEM).

Thanks

This mean it has to be new?

I've read other threads where people bought used clusters off eBay.

However I actually have the cluster from my car coded to the same VIN as the retrofitted LCI dials. Is this going to make any difference?

It doesn't have to be new. You can buy used then virginize. Note, you need special tools and knowledge to do that.

Ah right. So can use me original cluster but something must be done to it to appear new to the car?

I'll ask my garage but they may not be able to do it, as when I provided the LCI dials they did ask if they were new, presumably for this reason.
