Mysterious aftermarket wiring in Bmw 435i xdrive

Hey guys,

Just recently purchased a 2015 bmw 435i xdrive. The dealer noted the a usb wire is coming from a hole inside the glovebox, but I didn’t pay it much mind at first. Then after a few days I decided to check it out.

The usb wire is actually connected to a universal socket which is directly wired into the harness under the glovebox. Any ideas what it could be?

I’m thinking maybe something for a tune?

Pictures are attached

Any help would be great, thanks!

Mysterious! Perhaps it could be an aftermarket Apple CarPlay unit? Press and hold the menu button and see what happens.

I was hoping! Didn’t see any modules inside, and holding the menu button doesn’t do anything.

Does iDrive recognize a device plugged into it?

Nothing appears under multimedia, is there somewhere else I should look? Also tried to plug the usb into my computer and no devices popped up.

No I was just wondering if it was spliced into the headunit, or if it’s something else.

I know it doesn't sound like it goes all the way to obd port, but is it possible that it is for a tune, like you said, and then a little adapter makes it pluggable into a phone? Thats how I use my BM3, and I'm definitely considering tucking it behind the trim so its "permanent". But again, that's a cord from my obd port to the center console.
