Jb4 confusion

Hey fellas. So I just tuned my n54 2008 335i with a jb4. It was used, so not particularly sure of what the model is. Anyhoo, the tune works, it’s way more powerful and the buttons on the steering wheel work. Somewhat. It only goes up to the fifth setting on the volume side. The map setting works, the boost on gas works. I tried the shift light setting, and I was able to adjust the Rpm. However I could not go higher than the fifth setting, and I was wondering if there is a common reason for this. Hopefully someone has some experience with this issue, or can point me to a link for a fix. I could not find a result in a search. At least that was related to this issue. Thanks.

I read the faq. According to it the volume side should have 15 options. I can only go up to 5. The tune is working and the options I can access appear to work, after 50 mph on speedo it just increases the volume. Anyone ever heard of that?

I have never encountered this issue and I've tuned a few buddies N54's both with JB4 or MHD (or both). ragingpanda has a point with selling it and getting MHD to be completely honest. MHD is much more user friendly although you can't map on the fly as quickly as a JB4, map writes are still very quick. I personally run MHD on my car and have no complaints, just get a good quality KDCAN INPA cable like the Bimmergeeks cable and you'll be set.

You may have older firmware installed on the JB4.

N54tech.com is jb4 forums. Best to ask there. You can take a picture of the board inside the plastic box and they will be able to tell you what version you have.

In the end, good luck getting actual help on n54tech, they are elietists, and love showing it or simply never responding to legitimate questions.

Also if you have older firmware, DO NOT upgrade it!

There is an important "feature" (cough o2 error suppression cough) that was removed in the ISO firmware revisions.
