Warranty.
Hey guys sorry to post this. But does anyone know if adding a sub voids the warranty. I think the bass in the hk system just isn't there and I just want a sub. But this is my second x7 and if this one dies again I don't want them saying my sub is the problem and leave me hanging. Any info would be great. Thanks

Well, technically any aftermarket changes you make to your vehicle could affect your warranty. BMW says this in the fine print. That has always been the case with any car manufacturer. So if your iDrive head unit were to "die" you could have issues with warranty replacement since a sub install gone horribly wrong could be the culprit - so BMW could easily justify not warranting the iDrive head unit in this scenario. But if you had an engine failure (due to a material fault), it is very (very) unlikely BMW would not cover you just due to a subwoofer install.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. Even though modern cars are filled with complicated and integrated electronics, stereo upgrades are still very common. Just go to a reputable stereo shop that knows BMWs and you should be fine. But just like anything else in life, there are no guarantees. Of course, having a good relationship with your service advisor is always a good thing, too .

I agree. I bought an infinity bass link but gave up installing it for now. It's difficult to get to the amp. So I figured I would simply go right to the sub under the seat and tap off it for a signal. I removed the seat and exposed the sub, but the subs must be servo controlled because they constantly have voltage so that won't work for the line level input. I gave up and haven't revisited the situation.
