Smallest turbo to hit 500whp on pump gas
Ok so I'm planning on going single turbo soon and am currently trying to figure out which turbo to go with. Basically I want to hit 500whp on 91 octane (thats all we have in salt lake) but retain the best spool possible. I know a gt3582r will hit that power, but might be a bit overkill. Does anyone suggest a different turbo?

Didn't somebody hit 600whp with a 6466 on just pump gas, no meth? But for arguments sake let's say I would want to make 475whp. What would you recommend? |

https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1771082 475whp should be achievable on Stage 2 twins or a ST might be achievable on FBO car with 93oct, without E85. I don't know what the limit is on 91oct, Fueling is a major component to performance and running 91oct alone is going to hamper it big time. Its pretty much the worst fuel you can run. Sounds like you’re going to be unhappy with your car. That’s a lot of money for little power, even less power band, and limiting yourself on octane. Either figure out E85, meth or stick with twins.

I think that's a dangerous power level for pump gas. I'm not sure what his timing and boost level is set around, but I assume this might have been done for a dyno record on pump, but I can imagine 1 serious detonation destroying that engine.

You cannot make that kind of power on normal 91/93 octane not even close. Realistically the safest and most power you can make on straight low octane 91 octane with no water meth injection is around 500whp. This is will all the bolt on and with a much bigger than stock turbo.

Also i never said it was done on 91 octane. Owner stated it was 94 octane pump gas on a 6466 turbo 24psi no PI no Helix just stock HPFP and dual 450s. No meth no E85 no octane boosters. Never said it wasnt the safest tune either just stating that it is possible.

I have rb twos and am expecting to make around 500whp on 92oct...rob said it should be possible on 21 psi which is not very high boost for these turbos, and my tuner said it might be a little bit of a stretch but he is expecting ~485

These engines like octane and I would not try to push for a good number (despite the turbos) on 91 octane. You'd be better of with an LS based NA motor if you're trying to make a decent number with 91 octane.
Throw some E85 in to keep the motor happy and safe and be rewarded with a LOT more HP and torque. |
